Re: new exhaust
all you should need is the gasket/seal between the end of the header and the link pipe. It looks a bit like steelo pad (item number five here)
Pull the old one out of your standard pipe carefully and reuse it if it's fine. if not buy a new one

Re: new exhaust
If I had known how much of a bastard mine was to get out I would have just bought another
It had been off when the headers were done and looked like it had some sort of spray seal.
Eventially got it out without damage but that literally took 90% of the swap time.

Re: new exhaust
Hi PM,
Two things: when I put my can on I cut the heat shield off the original clamp and mounted in on the link pipe with a worm drive hose clamp to stop my heel from melting onto the pipe per the photo. 2nd I put a glass marble (about 13 mm) in the PAIR line just below the coupling near where the fuel pump connector comes out of the wiring harness to stop the deceleration snap, crackle and pop,
Cheers Peter

megacycle
i have a megacycle - came with the bike when i bought it - but it does not have a heat shield (yes - i melt a bit from my boots if i am not careful) - do they come with a heat shield?
i get the 'snap crackle & pop' but megacycle have said it is nothing to worry about - was not sure about your solution with the 'marble' - how does this work?

Hi Yasta, the original suzuki exhaust clamp incorporates a heat shield; I cut this off and mounted it as shown with a worm drive hose clamp. Sounds like you didn't get the original exhaust and mounting hardware with your bike.
As far as the 'snap, crackle and pop' is concerned I would agree that it is nothing to worry about, however I personally find it annoying. The cause is the PAIR system which pumps air into the exhaust ports to burn any unburnt fuel and lower emissions, i.e. it's an anti-pollution device. The easiest fix is the one I described above, split the pair supply line, block it and replace.
Cheers Peter
