Gday from Central QLD
Hey Forum members
My name is Dave, I've just bought a 96 1200 Bandit (which I previously owned) and after 3 years...
the bloke I bought her back off rode the poor gal into the ground
So, It's a sentimental ride and I'm doin a full restoration.
I NEED parts...
Starting with complete engine.
Is anyone wrecking a 96-2000 model here?
any help much appreciated and I'm looking forward to gettin my bike back to glory!

Welcome to the forum, I have a '96 Bandit on which I did an engine transplant from a Mark II Bandit.
The original engine was a weapon until the great timing chain debacle of 2010
Do you think it will fit in a post-pak?
I can advise on fitting a later engine, it's pretty straight forward.

Mate... I'd love to hear about putting a later year donk in my 96!
...it opens a world past 2000!
I have to wait to upload some pics, but I hope this doesn't upset Admins if I paste a link (pic) of my Bike frome bikepics.com:

Thanks in advance

There's actually not much to it, but being aware of the differences will help.
If you use the original carbies then you need to swap the intakes as the mark II are longer, I had to do it the hard way, with the engine in the bike once I realised. If you get the new carbies then you would need the later airbox I would think to make it all fit. So keeping the original carbies is probably easier (and cheaper) although they probably need a tune for best effect. Don't forget to balance them, I'm thinking of posting a poor-man's guide to carby balancing, stay tuned.
You will need to use your original alternator and the mark II has different connectors. The starter motors are the same
The Mark II has a different gear-position switch, so swap that from your old motor.
The Mark II oil cooler is different so you need to use your original plumbing and cooler, the later ones are bigger so I'm assuming that you could fit it, if you happen to get a whole bike.
As a bonus you get the mark II uprated clutch.
That's about all, I'll let you know if I think of anything else.
