Bandit sick could be terminal without a transplant
As some of you may have read elsewhere in the forum, my Bandit had a little lay down on some dirt, nothing spectacular, must have just been tired. However it unexpectedly wouldn't go again, exploratory surgery suggests that the timing chain somehow skipped some teeth putting the cams out of sequence and bending all 16 valves nothing like doing a good job.
Exploring the options including, sell the bits, repair damage (probably too much) and a transplant, anyone got a 1200 engine laying around?

Shit mate thats no good. I must have missed the original post.
You should be able to get a mill from a wreckers at a reasonable price for a transplant.

Original post was in the anniversary meet thread, so far one motor $1600 from wreckers, at that price on $3000 bike I'm tossing up what to do.
Thanks for the sympathy guys

Don't dwell on the negatives and bad luck you've had. And while you're working out what to do why not go out and test ride a new bandit, just to take your mind off things? Maybe even one of those shmick looking full faired jobs?

Another way of looking at it is to weigh up a $1600 transplant against a $13000 outlay on a replacement.
Re: Bandit sick could be terminal without a transplant
Guess it would depend what resources you have, but you might go close to getting a complete wreck for $1600 odd,

Maybe not spend $13000 on a new bike, but meet in the middle by buying a decent 2nd hand Bandit?

Bandit lives! Warning: Surgical Proceedures.
Transplant going well, patient now in recovery.
Donor Engine 2004 model with reportedly only 30,000km.
Patient during open heart surgery
New Heart in place.
Nut that gave us a hard time.
Bike moved under its own power for the first time today, sounds good but running like a dog down low.

Rebalanced the carbys today, must have given them a bit of a hard time getting in and out. Now running quite nicely and smooth thanks also to the new sprockets and chain.
Took it for a bit of a ride, and it was sweet, ready to take on the 1250cc coffee pots.
