Brakes ,front
Has anyone thought the Bandit has a lot of lever travel before you get the contact point . The lever seems (to me ) to travel a long way with
nothing .Good when it gets there but its not instant .?

Re: Brakes ,front
I had a good look at it and thought if you were to pack out the contact point where the lever sits above the rear light switch , the piston would be
pushed futher in ,leaving less travel .
In the end i thought this needs more consideration .

Re: Brakes ,front
thats right, i`ve got mine fully adjusted, but i can`t remember the exact feel i used to have with the bandit master, cause i`ve had the gixx set up for so long ,i`ve found that if i bleed my brakes often, that takes most of the slack out and bites better

Re: Brakes ,front
When i had my last front Tyre fitted I asked the shop to bleed the front brakes. They are fantastic now and I'm almost up for new pads.
Get them bled properly Gus.

I did bleed them yesterday but only gravity bleed .A little better, maybe.

Its a 5 minute job for a shop. I know you hate them but sometimes ............gus wrote:I did bleed them yesterday but only gravity bleed .A little better, maybe.
Re: Brakes ,front
bleed them yourself, its very easy, just make sure to keep an eye on the fluid level so you don`t suck air,but still,a very easy job to do

Re: Brakes ,front
When i was at a local bike shop i asked the mechanic about the lever travel .I was standing next to an unloved Honda and used that brake lever
as an example .The lever on the Honda came back a loooong way before any contact .I had not told him i was talking about my Bandit .
He said Nissin brakes are the worst for this (Honda and Bandit have them )
Told me to try and rotate pads .
Outside left goes to out side right .ECt Do all pads this way .
Ive been to busy to try it yet ,but i'm going to .

Not heard if the Nissin issue before. My RF900R had them as well and were fantastic brakes from smaller rotors too.
Many models of bikes have Nissin calipers and that sounds lice a cop out to me.
Re: Brakes ,front
He wasnt bagging the brakes themselves but said as the pads wear they can wear a little uneaven . Mine has 40,000 kays so they could
be down a bit .
I 'm about to swap them around .we will see .

Re: Brakes ,front
every time i`ve changed my pads, they always wear in to a wedge shape, never thought about rotation to counter act this ,although i`m concerned about surface area contact if you do this until they start to wear even

He did say new pads will fix it but rotating was a cheap fix .

Re: Brakes ,front
Sounds like the pistons and pins are in need of a service.
Still not heard of it before though. I'll be pulling mine next service so will be interesting. They look even at the moment.

Re: Brakes ,front
I pulled the pads and changed them around , i noticed 5 things .
The brakes arnt nissin (where did i get that from ,1200 ? )
They were worn on an angle
One pad was worn more than the others
It made no differance to lever travel.
I need new pads .(i never need new pads , ? )

Sounds like you need a caliper service. Both sides should be the same (about)gus wrote:I pulled the pads and changed them around , i noticed 5 things .

Did you notice any pulling (I saw that question on a forum once)

Re: Brakes ,front
I was out for a run on Saturday and noticed that if I hit the front a bit hard in right hand bend the bike pulls slightly to the right. It doesn't do it in a left hander.

Re: Brakes ,front
thats quiet bizzare,if you hit the brakes with any sort of intensity on a bend, the bike should stand up,unless you trail brake which pulls the bike down

Re: Brakes ,front
Yeah. I thought so. I also find it a bit strange that Suzuki has put the main brake hose from the MC to the right caliper and then the other hose from the right caliper to the left one. The Honda was split up at the head stem.

Re: Brakes ,front
yeah i chucked that system and went braided with two separate lines to each caliper from MC
