Fuel Pump playing up
It looks like my fuel pump is stuffed, just before the 6000k service. Symptoms are that it is running rough, almost like its missing, at low revs. Once I hit about 4300rpm it splutters and loses all power.
I consulted Ewok over a few drinks on the weekend, and he agrees that it appears to be the fuel pump.
Thanks to Gus for doing all the prep work on identifying this problem. It certainly helped when I told the dealer that I was a member of the Bandit owners group and other people had experienced this problem too, albeit with many more kilometres than I have. The dealer seemed aware of the issue too.
I spoke to the dealer today and they will fix it under warranty. I am trying to get it done before Christmas as I had some rides planned during that time. I will let you all know the outcome.

Good idea 2WA, will add that to the list.
I am amazed that this happened at 5900ks. I fill up at the same servos as Ewok and the only time I have bought fuel from a questionable outlet was in Oberon, with Ewok. He has had no probs. I am beginning to wonder whether Suzuki skimped on painting the inside of the tank on later models as mine is a 2011 model.
Thanks again Gus, you lead the way on diagnosing this one.

So this foreign matter is getting past the fuel filter and building up inside the pump proper? Those of you who have had these apart do you think there is any method of changing the filter to a different type? Had the idea for adding a metal gauze filter into the filler neck to catch any sh!t that may be in the fuel bowser before it gets into your tank.

No, I reckon it comes from the pump itself, maybe from the seals or brushes (if it has either), just can't see it getting past the tea bag. We would need to take one apart (a bandit fuel pump, that is) to get an idea.

I have not had any problem with my fuel pump and I've done 33,000km and have not always kept the tank full overnights and the bike is outdoors
now I've said that it'll happen

Thanks for reminding me how lucky I am
Its hopefully off to the dealers tomorrow. I will find out next week when I get back from interstate. I suspect that others are correct, and its something other than a blockage in the pump itself.
I will keep you all posted.

Re: Fuel Pump playing up
I'm wondering - if they replace the fuel pump, what will they do with the old one? Shame if it just ends up in a bin out the back, when a bit of disassembly and cleaning (using the Gus method) will have it back in a condition that you'd be happy with (to have it as a spare at least).

Damn, that's pretty shitful timing there Grover. Are you dealing with CMC or Dahlitz? Yeah they all use the same suppliers, but I'd trust Dahlitz over CMC any day. Have you ran any injector cleaners?

Re: Fuel Pump playing up
Folks, the verdict is in on my fuel pump.
Apparently it was a prbolem with the propellers not turning, possibly due to bearing failure.
I didn't have long to talk to the dealer when I picked the bike up to get more detail. I had a beer booked with Ewok in the bar nearest our work.
Anyway, it was all replaced under warranty and I hope it doesn't happen again.
