Delkevic headers on K5 1200
I fitted these last week in just cause i can and the originals weigh a ton (7.2 kgs stock header)
as they came out of the box
Old heavy ones about to be removed
New ones r/h side Please ignore the gasket goo in the middle of the collector all gone now
New ones l/h side
And the difference in the inner diameter of the two pipes old ones being twin walled and new being single walled pic a bit fuzzy
And it actually seems to make a difference absolutely no vibration any more seems to pull harder up top and flies through the mid range now and no more tink tink tink from the exhaust when you stop now after a good thrashing
They have gone a nice deep straw colour and no blue hot spots yet
All up it took me about 1.5 hours from start to finish including a coffee break and you don't even need to remove the oil cooler , the pipes needed a little bit of persuasion to get into position but nothing heavy handed was needed
Not too bad for only $359.00 to my door

Nice one. Did you have to do anything else with regards to sensors or stuff of that ilk?

They are 4 into 1 exactly the same as stock without cross the link pipes between 1-4 and 2-3

No no sensors on these old oil boilers just plain old mid 1980's technology here ,I have also taken the pair system off and blocked off the holes in the front of the barrels (see pic of shiny plate just under header outlet) no more popping on the over run now

Here you go a link to the USA seller
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Suzuki-GSF1200S-BANDIT-95-05-Exhaust-Header-Down-Pipes-/190580325314?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c5f78fbc2
It gets here quicker when you order from the states rather from the local guy who advertises on E-Bay who is in Coomera on the gold coast and slightly cheaper From the states as well
Cheers
If yours is a K6 1200 i am not too sure about whether you have a catalytic converter or not as the K5 does not and my link pipe mates straight up and yours may be different ?????

Re: Delkevic headers on K5 1200
Thats a great buy. If I hadn't gotten my oem headers ceramic coated I would definately get a set. And they will fit straight onto the '06. No cat'.

Thanks guys might wait until the dollar improves again but these appear to be a great buy. The end of the collector pipe looks rather large will it suit my Yoshi link pipe??

I have a Yoshi link pipe and it fits straight in as the headers are made to be replacements for the original set without any modifications needed as in countries where they salt and grit the roads in the winter the OEM collector ( mild steel ) rots out this is a big problem in the U.K and the USA where it snows

STI-REX, this vibration you mention - is it the 4000rpm one that all the 1200's have?

That is the very one but it is also made worse on the "S" model as there are bits of foam behind the clocks that stop them rubbing on the inner fairing panel and over time these go hard/ compress and then vibration gets amplified by these 2 parts interfering with each other
I have a holeshot stage 1 jet kit ( soon to be stage 2 with pods) and that alone took a lot of the vibration away as the bike is no longer piston melting lean like it is from the factory , this along with the exhaust and the renthal ultra low bars ( with the brace) have resulted in no noticable vibration and the bike actually seems to run cooler and does not fry me on a hot day anymore

Very nice bit of gear this one and getting rare for the old oil boiler

Hi STI-REX,
Just after an update on your headers. How are they going? Something I'm interested in is how the springs are fairing.
Cheers,
IM
Oh yeah, are you coming to the concourse bike show in July?

Re: Delkevic headers on K5 1200
The springs are still intact and rust free at this point in time
2 of the header pipes are starting to show signs of discolouration (low quality stainless ) with brown splotches up high on the bend of the header
If i was to buy them now i would get them ceramic coated to help preserve the look ( only really matters because you can see them on the bandit , a fully faired bike it wouldn't worry me)
I have only ridden in the rain twice since fitting them due to being in a sling for 2 months of this year due to surgery
There are probably better sets available for the cost once you factor in ceramic coating costs
performance wise they make the bike a different animal now up top and the mid range seems way better than stock with these and my intake mods
all up they are good bang for your buck set of headers
Not planning on traveling too far at the moment as i still have not made a full recovery from the surgery and my boss rang me up and made me redundant this week even though i still have at least 3 months before i can return to my previous type of work ( just saw the specialist yesterday ) Hopefully work cover keep paying my wages
so i think the concourse show may be out of my reach at this point

Re: Delkevic headers on K5 1200
Sorry to hear about that, Mate. While you're away injured too.
I'm just curious about the difference the headers made by themselves.
FWIK you went from a stock engine with a DW stage 1 kit, added headers and then later added a DW stage 2 kit with pods.
What was the improvement made on the stage 1 with stock headers to the Delkevic ones?
Were there any recommended changes to the stage 2 if you ran aftermarket headers over stock ones?
The 4,000rpm buzz just shits me no end and want to tune it out as much as possible. At the mo, I avoid 4K.

Re: Delkevic headers on K5 1200
Just an update on these
They are still going strong and haven't rusted (the springs have tarnished) and still sound nice and deep and run just fine with the stock jet settings for the stage 1 or stage 2 kit
Current jetting setup is
Hole shot stage 1 with airbox and 2" hole mod needle on clip #5 from top( bottom slot ) with 2 shims under clip with 110 main jet and the holeshot supplied pilot jet
pilot screws @ 3-1/4 turns out
and 25 mm removed from the slide springs free height (Holeshot recommendation )
Very strong and clean down low with a silly top end rush much better than stock and stuff all difference in fuel economy maybe because you don't need to open the throttle as much
still a bit cold blooded during initial start up but 5 seconds of choke and it runs and idles perfectly and settles at a solid 1100 rpm idle in a couple of mins
when the throttle is blipped it doesn't hang onto revs (lean ) or drop below (rich) the preset idle once at operating temp
I highly recommend these headers and a jet kit from Holeshot for these oil cooled bandits
