Front guard .
First topic message reminder :
Have you ever looked at the front guard .I mean "really looked at it ".
The front looks fantastic ,swooping lines and fins. Definately designed buy a Batman fan . Unfortuneately he only did the front half ,and due to a big
night out, the accountant thought he could finish off the remainder ,and failed .
It looks two bits joined together .
The good
THe other boring bit .
The ideal way (i think ,open to suggestions ) is to cover it with c\fibre ,but the shape and cost (to me ) has stopped that . But it would be possible
to do the front half and fade it to the back with a black paint .
Ive sprayed the back half so far .
Anyone interested enough for me to take pics of the carbon bit ,.win or disaster .

Wait until you see the really nice looking front fender Dale at Holeshot is coming out with soon, along with his new fairing. I had planted the idea in his head quite awhile back, as I had told him that I along with a lot of other 1250 owners hated the Batman styled front fender.
The new fender is styled after a ZRX1200 front fender, and I plan on getting one of the first ones when it's available.
To much email ping pong with dale to worry about it

The carbon fender is work related so it doesnt count as clever . We all have a "skill ' mine isnt welding or maths or speling ect, ect.

It's good enough Gus to be showing the world and other bike forums what can be achieved at home with a bit of patience and time.
DW's gear is always top notch but I like one off's too.

Re: Front guard .
Thanks guys.
If i did another one i think i could get it 15% better from what i learnt from this one .You really need to have the guard secure on a stand or you are
forever chaseing it with the resin brush .I think the idea was good and cost was cheap $20 if you dont count your time ..You could make 4 in the
same time as 1 .
Overall i'm happy with it .Less "pink " and matches the front. Its a shame the guard is now HEAVYER.
How it used to look
And now .
Now if i get rid of the GT silver stripe it might just blend in .AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH

Re: Front guard .
THE Suzuki ones look easier than the Aprilia ones .Mine (Suzuki ) are riveted to the rad guard so i think mine are out .Ive been using crap
general purpose resin (cloudy ) so I'm looking forward to using some decent stuff .There was no way i was buying it in small quality from the hardware .It hurts paying full retail when I'm used to paying trade .I'm back in the trade next week so I'll have access to some good brew .

Re: Front guard .
How would you go using a clear urethane? We used to use the stuff, in either single pack or two pack, on carbon masts. It gave a very nice finish. Only problem(s) is getting small quantities of the stuff and the cost of it.

Re: Front guard .
I could two pack them to save time and probably get a slightly better finish but its another product to buy and maybe susceptible to stone chips.
Mixing up such small amount also is going to be 50% waist ($).If you had 50 to do though probably the way to go .
Are you a boat builder ?
Epoxy would give a nice strong finish but I'm comfortable working with resin so i ll stick with it .
Suzuki end cap (alloy ones) in production now .
I was banned from resin work at home by my partner , she has been giving me the all day .

Used to own an A class catamaran Gus. They have a carbon mast, beams, boom, tiller and lots of other bits these days. Due to wear and tear you would have to recoat most of it every few years. !8 foot in length, 2.3 mtr wide, nine mtr mast. All up weight 75 kilo.

Don't anyone sit still for too long or Gus will carbon fibre you.
Doing some great stuff there mate. Don't think I be needing a radiator surround any time soon. Seeing as I have no water cooling.

Re: Front guard .

Ripped it off . Think next attempt i'll have it sorted ,Learnt a lot from it though .I'll get a pay this week so i can get some decent material and
set up some proper jigs .
Bet you that has filled you with confidence Reddog . (its the plastic bits that are playing up ,a plastic primer should sort it )
