Greetings from Melbourne
Greetings all, Thought I’d better step up and introduce myself. Im not that new to motorcycle riding, started about age 14 and never looked back (I’ll add my 2 wheeled history in the appropriate thread shortly). About to take ownership of a 2010 1250s (in Henry Fords favourite colour!). Its going to replace my GSXR as a more user friendly sports tourer. The only mods at this stage will be a ventura rack, pro-oiler, and some rim tape! This forum looks to have some great info, along with some “greater” characters. Hope I can contribute something useful as some stage. Cheers!

Hello and welcome.
Oh and 2WA, I think it's time that pink thing was put to rest.
We have to be open to everybody here. Even those that have embraced an "alternative" lifestyle.

Re: Greetings from Melbourne
Hi, this is another new member from Greensborough, VIC. You see from my ID that I am a Ulyssean who attends the Ulysses Whittlesea Branch.
I have a 2007 Bandit 1250S on which I have about 33,000 klm. I am now retired and find, to my chagrin, that I am doing less riding than I did when I was working! It must be the 33 year backlog of domestic maintenance that I am working though that is getting in the way...
I am seeking advice on an issue that I will post elsewhere but one piece of advice that I can offer is to make sure you change your airfilter at 16,000 klm else it will get choked enough to interfere with your fueling. A K&N filter immediately resolved the problem!

Re: Greetings from Melbourne
G'day and welcome.
You might have impressed me more by saying "I had to change my filter at 1600 because it was blocked." Mine has 24000 and is clean.
Various members here have had mixed results with k&n air filters.
It might pay you to pull up a chair and observe for a while before telling us how to suck eggs.
Sorry if that's harsh and I really do mean welcome

Re: Greetings from Melbourne
Oh dear, I did not realise that it was so important to chose your words so carefully here! I don't see that my description of the airfilter issue was any different from yours. I could have given you a blow by blow account of the process I went through to resolve my 'drivability' issue, including changing the gearing, changing the air filter and finally having the ECU tested to ensure there was no other problem. The mechanic expressed no surprise that the problem was the airfilter. This is, apparently, an issue with the 1250 bandit as the airbox, and filter, is small for such a big engine. The original paper airfilter was somewhat dirty but in no way could you describe it as 'choked'. I have never experienced such an effect since I bought my first motorcycle with an airfilter in 1973. My old british bikes never had such things.
The K&N filter fixed the problem immediately and after another 16,000klm it has not reappeared. I personally love K&N filters and have used them since 1980 as soon as the OEM filter needed changing.
The Bandit is the first motorcycle I have owned with EFI, so maybe fuel injected motors are more sensitive to restricted airflow.
Er, thanks for the welcome!

I took exception to this;
It's the worst bit of generalist advice I have ever seen here. Not withstanding 16,000 isn't a service interval.ulysses508 wrote: one piece of advice that I can offer is to make sure you change your airfilter at 16,000 klm else it will get choked enough to interfere with your fueling. Oh, I am not intimidated by unintentionally upsetting sensitive people. I regret it mind.
This will be my last comment on this issue but my advice was not intended to be generalist, it was intended to be SPECIFIC! Yes I know the service replacement for the airfilter is 18,000klm but I was experiencing a drivability problem from 16,000klm onwards. Foolishly, apparently, I thought this information might be useful to someone!
I hope my second post in this thread explained the issue sufficiently, if not I am quite prepared to provide more detail, should anyone be interested.
