TRE 1250 Thoughts
First topic message reminder :
There are a couple of reasonably priced TRE's on eBay at the moment and I'm wondering if I should go down that path (also looking at a fender elim too).
Anyone played with a TRE? Where do they plug in? How hard? Much difference etc?
Note; my bike has never really surged or hunted (and I have a theory that I'll share privately on why some say they do ) so I'm happy with the fuelling etc but think if the power is there to be had why not? Seeing as most of my commute is in 3rd - 4th gear.
Thoughts/experiences with the 1250 please?

Bazz. I wouldn't mind a gear indicator & if it unresrtricts all the better .. I just wish I could find one thats about half the size of the ones that seem to be on the market, its not as if smaller 7 segment displays are not available.
I wonder if I bought one of these would I be able to retrofit a smaller display ?? anyone know.
Yeah, Its bigger then i expected.
I'll leave it where it is for now and see how i like it there. I may move it or sink it down in to the gauges later.
Re: TRE 1250 Thoughts
Holeshot's ATRE comes with a nice mount enabling you to put it lower down under the instruments.

Eight gears?!!
Seriously though, I find a full-face helmet requires me to lower my head to bring the standard instruments into full-view - I wouldn't want a gear indicator any lower than the top of the binnacle - although I agree it looks a mite too big. Also wondering if the reflection on the shield is distracting at night
Why didn't Suzuki just include a gear indicator as standard?

Have a look on the Suzuki Australia site http://www.suzukimotorcycles.com.au/bikes/road/sport-sport-touring/2010/gsx1250fa.html The whole dash has changed!
Re: TRE 1250 Thoughts

That gear indicator looks perfect - oh well, there is always something you would like on the bike you have. Better to just enjoy what you have as it is! I probably will become more familiar with what each gear sounds and feels like at 25,40,50,60,80,100 and 110 and whatever other speedlimit they decide to add, as time goes on!

ATRE
I have just installed a GLPRO on mine, initially I was only after a gear indicator but decided to pay a little extra and have the ATRE function. Really easy to install, I made up a bracket almost the the same as the one Holeshot offer. I haven't had any issues with rough running, surging etc, but did notice the bike is smoother as well as smoother gear changes. Can send you pics if you like, I have heated grips with a relay switched from the tail light, I piggy-backed off the relay to power the GLPRO.
I picked it up from this guy http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-GIpro-Gear-Indicator-Advanced-TRE-Suzuki-/380254941577?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item5888f5f189

Interesting. Not a priority for me but ineresting anyway
Re: TRE 1250 Thoughts
I found this to be a pretty good place to mount, I purchased a strip of aluminium from bunnings to make the bracket.
This is with the frame cover removed, you can access the plugs easier, so you need to find the GPS coupler, its white and once you think you have found it, disconnect it and make sure your neutral light does not work when its disconnected, all you need to do now is plug in the gipro, all plugs are supplied.
This is the relay I installed for the heated grips, it was easier to connect +12v here, fused etc, they say you can connect direct to the battery, I prefer to have everything off when the key is out.

Has anyone found one with a smaller display yet? And possibly LCD instead of LED as I reckon it would be a bit distracting at night.

Re: TRE 1250 Thoughts
I haven't as yet tried it at night, it does have an auto-brightness feature as well as 10 adjustable levels. It is a little bigger than I thought it was going to be, the units without the ATRE function are smaller.

Re: TRE 1250 Thoughts
For what it's worth the GSX1250FA runs out of puff before you hit any limiter, so I can't imagine the Bandit is any different...
Fitting a TRE to a FA apparently disables the gear indicator so that it always displays "5" (for 5th gear), or "0" for neutral.
Personally I'd rather save up for a Power Commander PCV, so that you could have custom maps, retain the gear shift functionality, and remove the speed limiter (not that the latter will make any difference :S)!

Re: TRE 1250 Thoughts
It looks like units without the gear indicator are about $60. After 20,000km on this bike and plenty more on other big bikes I don't think I need to be told what gear I'm in so I think I'll go that way. A temp gauge on the other hand .......
