What If? ~ Thoughts
If a bloke/woman was to pick up a cheap 2000 VTR1000F because someone wanted to raise some quick cash would he/she be thought of as less a man/woman because they weren't on his/her list of potential bikes?
If this same person asked for opinions on the VTR as a bike (smaller tank model) what would they be?
What would this person need to pay close attention to when inspecting said bike?
No names so don't ask

Then it would be totally up to the bloke/woman to decide.
ps. You still have the FZ listed in "your bikes "

That would depend on whether he or she could guarantee to make a quick profit. Not much point if money had to be spent on it to get it roadworthy. Or if it took a long time to sell.
IMHO cars, bikes etc make lousy investments unless they are of course a rare classic

Re: What If? ~ Thoughts
This person is keen because the price is right. Bike seems sound with less than 20k on the clock.
Bit its not the bike/s they thought they would get next.
I guess this person could sell next summer and turn a small profit if it didn't work out.

I think if the price is right and the condition is very good then said person will not be unhappy with a VTR. The only thing they had a habit of was dropping a cylinder but that was fixed under warranty if it happened. ( happened to my mates 10 years ago and not a worry since ). Very ordinary fuel economy ( big thirsty carbies ) but thats no biggie. Everyone knows you have to plan a ride around the Doofus with the VTR.
Great bike, great fun, great note, much the same as the TL till you get higher in the rev range. Better suspension though, they handle really well. I would buy one in a second if the price was right. Was actually looking at a couple whilst searching for the TL.
Hope your friend finds this informative. Twinners are grinners .

Every thing going for them except for the fuel range................if you can work around that , I don't think you .....sorry.......... your friend will regret it / they sound awesome with aftermarket pipes
You .......sorry .......your friend really only has to please himself , not the rest of the world .

that person should not buy if they plan to make a profit, cause you very rarely make a profit, buy it to enjoy it thats why it was made in the first place

Low ks. Nothing to spend. Recon you would get the price down.
I like the tri colour ones.
ps. And you can say you bought it for your new Grandson. Cause when he's old enough it will be worth quite a bit more.

If a person rode it and liked it I see no reason not to buy it.
My sister has had 2 VTR1000's and loved them both - she lost the 1st one as part of a divorce settlement and sold the second one in a period of her life when she wasn't riding much and couldn't afford to keep registering it/insuring it.

Re: What If? ~ Thoughts
mate of mine has one, yellow 2000, I like the thing,
handles really well, when I get back on the bandit, it feels like an arm chair, in saying that, I found the VTR to be very comfortable.
it has good power, bandit has a little more, but not worth an argument
the only thing that lets it down is range on a tank full, but it depends what your using it for, fun or distance. Its not like you`ll ever be stranded though. You may have to think about that if your traveling across N.T

My brother's mate has an older VTR - it goes well but he hates the 200km range (that is because all his mates ride bikes that have 300km range). Being a Honda, they are likely to be reliable (I think Honda is over the VF by now).
PS: Would the said person consider a Ducati ST3? Great bike and better than both the ST2 and the ST4. You've seen my brother Shane's ST3 in action on the Licola Rd. Not sure about pricing or how it might compare to such things as TLs, SVs, and VTRs. Shane has never had any issues in 38,000kms.

Re: What If? ~ Thoughts
The person in question had a look and lusten at the VTR1000F today and it ticks all the boxes. Still has original front tyre on it (rock hard) and a newish PR2 on the back. Has gutted original cans with spares for RWC. A couple of small marks on plastic where paint has been rubbed off. Was pissing rain so knocked back a ride but will get one on Sunday.
Seller wants a dirt bike and for whst it is the price is exceptional and negotiable depending on what's required for RWC.
This friend could be aboard a Honda for the first time since an XL250 in 82 by next weekend.

Well if it " ticks all the boxes " that just about seals it. Sounds like your friend may get a new toy. Let us know what you thought after the test ride. But be careful of that front hoop.

This will be in my garage next weekend.
Test ride was ok but not spectacular.
Needs jetting or balance and the front brakes were very ordinary but its all fixable.
The price was less than I was going to offer in the end so I can afford to work on it and I'm still in front. If it doesn't work out I'll offload it but I'm sure it will be a nice toy.
My first Honda since 1982 and an XL250
I need to check eBay for a fuel tanker now

Thanks Jimmy and thanks also for your help with sourcing a TLR/S but I think (hope) I've got better value here.Jimmy the Boy wrote:Congratulations mate !! Gee it looks in good nick. The local Honda dealer (ex SP1 & 2 racer) has asked for a ride to make an assessment. Says it most definitely will need jetting if its not already done. And it should stop pretty well which it currently doesnt but even a caliper kit won't break the bank. I'll drop it off to him one day next week.
It's in good nick with 16500km on it and documented 2 owner history and service records which I can't wait to have a closer look at.
Has a seat cowl and original cans not in photo.

Looks very tidy Chris. As you said, a few $$ to make it go better and stop but that is really routine stuff. And the touring bag could come in handy if you venture as far as my place (you're always welcome).

That would require 2 - 3 fuel stops and thats before jetting
That trip is better suited to the Bandit

Be interesting to get your feedback once you get it sorted. All the best, mate.
