TRE 1250 Thoughts Empty TRE 1250 Thoughts

Post  2wheelsagain Wed 14 Oct 2009, 8:50 am

There are a couple of reasonably priced TRE's on eBay at the moment and I'm wondering if I should go down that path (also looking at a fender elim too).
Anyone played with a TRE? Where do they plug in? How hard? Much difference etc?
Note; my bike has never really surged or hunted Smile (and I have a theory that I'll share privately on why some say they do silent ) so I'm happy with the fuelling etc but think if the power is there to be had why not? Seeing as most of my commute is in 3rd - 4th gear.

Thoughts/experiences with the 1250 please?

I have Dale Walkers ATRE on my Bandit. www.holeshot.com @ US$179

The TRE function I can not comment as I can not tell the difference but I love the gear indicator feature.

Buying from Dale also gets you the mount which goes on simply with one screw out, put holder in place and put screw back.

As far as installing the unit. Remove tank, undo one plug and put in unit, one plug to each side of unplugged connection. Then connect red lead to battery (with fused link I think). It takes longer to tidy up the wiring than install the unit itself.

Dale will tell you best setting to use if you buy from him.

Cheers

I am planning on fitting on as well. Mainly for the gear indicator.

From all reports, 5th is the one to go for (gear wise, that is)

1st, 2nd and I think 3rd are output limited to reduce wheelstanding (ie, improve rideability in politically correct speak) and 6th is speed limited.

Not sure about the mapping restrictions for 4th.

Please, jump in here at anytime...

Oh, and mine does surge, always has from new. Dealer cannot get rid of it and suzuki say there is no problem with the injection system. BMC air filter and Blueflame pipe seems to have reduced it, or maybe now I am just riding around it and do not notice as much anymore. Question

1,2,3 restricted 4,5 good and 6 speed limited but don't recon bandit (in standard form) will reach speed limit restriction
all gears have different timing maps. from my research there are 12 timing maps (wierd I know seeing how bike has only got six gears) that I can find

mine surged from new and as you said dmaxhall, dealer couldn't sort it. my solution was to disable the GP sensor. that combined with muffler and fuel adjustments i've done the bandit will wheely in second on throttle when in the sweet spot and sometimes depending on how i shift and play the wheel pops up into third

Easy fix for surging is to remove the secondary throttle plates. Highly recommend it.BTW mine did not surge.

i believe it is somewhere near 180 mph (or about 290 kph).
it's not a bandit specific speed restriction but something to do with the roads in Europe like the autobahn etc

yes know a fully tilt bandit will run out to ~160 mph.
the number I posted (which may be wrong but I do recall being told 300 kph) is the speed limiter that kick in to limit top speed.
it's a hold over form the busa but applies to all EFI suzukis

Gear Position sensor Oz.

It is where the atre plugs into. I had my atre on my M90 and it made a noticeable difference. Fortunately the same one fits the Bandit so I installed it and it isn't that big a difference. But I still like the gear position indicator.

Thinking about geting a TRE. If 5th is unrestricted, why is the TRE set on 5th? 2nd or 3rd make more sense to me (wheely good wheelys) LOL. Is that how it works?

I have one.

You set it on 5 so the bike "thinks" it is in 5th. So no timing retard.

You can do it with 10 bucks worth of parts from Dick Smith as well, but no gear indicator. All you need is the correct resistor.

I wouldn't mind a gear indicator & if it unresrtricts all the better .. I just wish I could find one thats about half the size of the ones that seem to be on the market, its not as if smaller 7 segment displays are not available.
I wonder if I bought one of these would I be able to retrofit a smaller display ?? anyone know.
