Trivia .....
First topic message reminder :
What does everone think about a TRIVIA thread
Stuff that maybe of no use to most people but really handy to the others. Maybe a good DVD ,something they have made, seen ,heard of ,
cooked ,been too .Minor things that do not really warrant a post of there own.(like most of my stuff ,there beat you to it )
Like taking a tractor tyre up north to float your Bandit across a river to a football selection ,the taste of beer ,who's state is
better at Rugby League. (may be not that) .Something that may make someone else say ,"why didnt i think of that".
Good idea or just post it on "off topic discussions " or not post it at all? (feeling vulnerable now )

What ever happened to the Pioneering Spirit . I recently built a old style pioneering hut ,copied from a real one . Council said " that's not council approved ".
Fuck me ,what can one say , I keep bikes in it . dO I REALLY NEED DOUBLE GLAZING .

Re: Trivia .....
Georgetown Council once made me put 2x12mm fire-check gyprock sheets on the inside of one of the corners of my colourbond metal garage because that corner was within 900mm of the wooden boundary fence.

Its a joke , I deliberately made it rustic . They didn't get it, its a tiny hut on 5 acres . Surprised they didn't look at the goat shed . That has no insulation or door . Oh the horror .

Punters luck
I won $3 in a work sweep. I invested $10 and made $3.
Do I have a problem?
We've got a lad who wins the work sweep almost every year. He doesn't invest any more than any one else but 9/10 times he walks away with more than he put in.

Going to a live ukulele concert at Chudleigh next Saturday
Now there's a town you will need Google Maps to locate
As this is a trivia topic I thought it would be appropriate to mention a rural locality in Tasmania called
Nowhere Else
Tasmania 7306 (it's even got it's own postcode)(population 40)
Hey Paul, I bet you can't resist the temptation to look it up

Re: Trivia .....
While on the trivia topic I recently saw a roadside sign advertising
Fresh Eggs
Surely the word "fresh" is superfluous

We actually drove by , but not to Nowhere Else ; which I suppose puts at at Somewhere Else in that case , when we were on holidays over there .BanditDave wrote:paul wrote:There's something about a good live performance you can't beat

Self Serve Supermarket Checkouts
I was reading a news article recently where they were saying supermarket checkouts were going to be fully self service in the near future.
I had a recent experience at the local supermarket where all 3 assisted checkouts (there were at least another 7 which were closed) had 3-5 people waiting to be served.
I don’t do it often but chose to use the self serve checkout which consists of around 12 checkouts with one assistant available for when things don’t go quite to plan.
Well, all was going well until I got to a packet of chicken (for my dogs) which refused to scan. The assistant came over and said that all chicken products would not scan correctly and that I was required to type the bar code numbers using the keypad.
Just to be difficult, I said to her that I couldn’t read the numbers so that wasn’t the solution. She got very annoyed with me and entered the code herself.
Had this not been the outcome I was happy to leave the item at the checkout.
I also understand that there is quite a lot of dishonest behaviour at these automatic checkouts including people scanning avocados and entering them as potatoes etc.
I have also observed a single operator getting quite stressed having to look after ten or more shoppers simultaneously.
I don’t think things will become any easier in the future and will endeavour to use operator assisted checkouts as much as possible.

Re: Trivia .....
I agree . I also prefer the personal service you get at the operator assisted checkouts .( Although if you shop at Aldi , you get to pack your own bags , so it's only really half of the personal service )Our local target store now doesn't give you the option, so you have to use self serve ................except if you are paying by cash , where then they send you to a " special " counter to hand over your money with the other strange people from another time and place . Given enough time , I wonder if they will do away with shops altogether , and we will be forced to do all our shopping on line instead .BanditDave wrote:I was reading a news article recently where they were saying supermarket checkouts were going to be fully self service in the near future.

New Zealand
Just got back from a 18 day holiday in New Zealand north island. Beautiful country, fantastic roads and beautiful people.
I've been there once before and I'm trying to get another holiday back there 'cept maybe the south island.
2 trivial things I noticed, you can still lock the fuel bowser nozzle in on position and they still use paper bags in the supermarket we used.
