Trivia .....
First topic message reminder :
What does everone think about a TRIVIA thread
Stuff that maybe of no use to most people but really handy to the others. Maybe a good DVD ,something they have made, seen ,heard of ,
cooked ,been too .Minor things that do not really warrant a post of there own.(like most of my stuff ,there beat you to it )
Like taking a tractor tyre up north to float your Bandit across a river to a football selection ,the taste of beer ,who's state is
better at Rugby League. (may be not that) .Something that may make someone else say ,"why didnt i think of that".
Good idea or just post it on "off topic discussions " or not post it at all? (feeling vulnerable now )

Re: Trivia .....
Sneaky. I used to use a bobby pin (not mine), but got checked a few times and the bowser was turned off on me, maybe I just need to be sneakier.GSX1100G wrote:Want to head there one day myself. Daughter did a flying week of the south with group of friends. She thinks 2-3 weeks for each island . Have a small piece of wood that sit near car fuel cap for that
NZ fuel is currently$2.00 - $2.28 a litre. I understand their rego and car insurance is cheaper but they pay more for fuel to counter balance it. I don't think the government will be missing out either way.
Every NZer I spoke to had a high opinion of their Prime Minister.

Re: Trivia .....
Just had another kidney stone - 3mm. I had another one I guess about 12-18 months back.
If giving birth is more painful, I'll stick with the stone - Thanks.

Re: Trivia .....
Quite willing to pass ( no pun ) on that life event. Was in a hospital, in the early hours, many years ago with daughter and the noise this guy was making was incredible.

When you can buy a nice gsx400 for $800, then cash in the full rego for a refund of $400 , im surprised more people don't have a few bikes .

Agreed, but the women go back mostly willingly to have another baby and sometimes several more times for more babies - Strong Women and full credit to em.
Ya know you're alive when the pain kicks in . No freindly stretch or comfortable position could be found for mine which just added to everything in a negative way.GSX1100G wrote:Quite willing to pass ( no pun ) on that life event. Tofu
Mention was made under another topic regarding tofu being "yucky" by one of our South Australian members.
As a vegetarian I eat a number of soy products including tofu. I've never come across any strange flavours or smells, it pretty much doesn't have any, so I suspect he got a crook meal.
Anyway a bit of trivia I found on a US websits
The humble soybean is used in many different products including:-
Biodiesel — biodiesel fuel for diesel engines can be produced from soybean oil by a simple process called transesterification. This process removes the glycerine from the oil, leaving soy biodiesel. Soy biodiesel is cleaner burning than petroleum-based diesel oil. Its use reduces particulate emissions, and it is non-toxic, renewable and environmentally friendly.
Biocomposites are building materials made from recycled newspaper and soybeans. They replace other products traditionally made from wood, such as furniture, flooring, and countertops.
Particleboard, laminated plywood and finger-jointed lumber are made with soy-based wood adhesives.
Soy products are also found in many popular brands of home and commercial carpet, and in auto upholstery applications.
Soy oil produces an environmentally friendly solvent that safely and rapidly removes oil from creeks, streams and shorelines without harming people, animals and the environment. Soy is an ingredient in many industrial lubricants, solvents, cleaners and paints.
Candles made with soybean oil burn longer but with less smoke and soot.
SoyInk is superior to petroleum-based inks because soy ink is not toxic, renewable and environmentally friendly, and it cleans up easily.
Soy crayons made by the Dixon Ticonderoga Company replace the petroleum used in regular crayons with soy oil making them non-toxic and safer for children.
Soy-based lubricants are as good as petroleum-based lubricants, but can withstand higher heat. More importantly, they are non-toxic, renewable and environmentally friendly.
Soy-based hydraulic fluid and rail flange lubricants are among the more recent products developed with check-off funds.
Soy based foams are currently being developed for use in coolers, refrigerators, automotive interiors and even footwear. Beginning in 2007, Ford Mustangs and other vehicles rolled off the production line with soy foam in the seats. New uses in the automotive and equipment industry followed, including lubricants, body parts, interiors and seating.

Re: Trivia .....
Possibly not available here ??? The Tofu in question was at a pretty classy restaurant , and when the guide was asked about the smell , she said it was stinky Tofu .......popped it into her mouth , said yummy and carried on like it was part of normal life . This may help explain it to you ..................BanditDave wrote:Mention was made under another topic regarding tofu being "yucky" by one of our South Australian members.

Re: Trivia .....
Howdy Paul,
What would possess you to order/consume such a disgusting item.
I imagine they call it "stinky" for a reason.
Unless of course you was told it was an aphrodisiac and you were feeling lucky Stick with oysters.
As a vegetarian and a consumer of regular tofu and other soy products I would look for some other product if I was in the market for some stimulation.
Interesting, asafoteida powder is a product in Indian cuisine and gets mentioned in Hare Krishna as well.
It is made from the root of a giant fennel plant and substitutes for garlic and onion which the above regard as items that "heat the blood" leading to arousal, probably the exact opposite to an aphrodisiac.
BTW I do have a bottle of asafoteida in my cupboard which I use in a number of indian dishes that call for it (for culinary reasons of course).

Re: Trivia .....
When we booked all our excursions , this one was put down as a western style buffet with all the beer you could drink , so we were expecting western food . What we got was a help yourself buffet like the western culture one, but with eastern foods ...............not all , but most of it , so there was other stuff to eat and some of their food is also nice , just not like the Chinese food you get here in Aus. Oh and did I mention all the beer you could drink ( some of their beers are very drinkable , and cheap )BanditDave wrote:Howdy Paul,

Re: Trivia .....
I guess stinky tofu does not appear on Oz chinese menus for a very good reason as you have discovered.
As for drink packages, whilst living in Mackay we stayed on pretty much every Whitsunday island.
Typically, being a "local" we got special deals where out of towners paid quite a bit more.
Some of the islands, I recall Linderman Island was one of them, offered accommodation plus a drink package for an extra $150 per day per person.
This drink package included unlimited beer, wine and basic spirits.
People would take the drink option and make a bit of a mess of themselves on day one consuming the $150 value.
However, on day 2 and beyond the consumption of $150 of alcohol became a bit of a challenge so in reality it was a poor financial decision.
The island management knew this and made a handsome profit as a result.
This also happened in roadhouses where a cup of coffee was say $2, a bottomless cup being $4. I never saw anybody go beyond three cups and enjoyed the rest of their day.
