Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
First topic message reminder :
Who's planning on doing the WSBK's in February, and who is interested in getting a house on the island?
There are plenty of options but we'd need to know who wants to join in to get a idea of what size place we'd need?
Going
Hammy + Mate
Ewok & Bev
madmax
Chook
reddog and Mrs reddog
Barry & Axle

Great work Max. Looks nice. A pool comp will be in order. Maybe a bit far to push the shopping trolley Dave. Of course Bev can come. But we won't let her do a lamb roast. (private joke) When it gets nearer we can organise when everyone is leaving so that we can meet up for a convoy.

Strange you should mention that Chook, we know the local council Animal Control Officer quite well, he's going to start dropping over our own supply of these:
With three of them we go through a fair few, sometimes its a multi-bag stop:
This is one of the few shots I have that shows how big Leroy is, those of you have meet Axel will have some idea of his size.
Unfortunately he can't come to Phillip Island as he's too big to travel in the sidecar (or fit in the dog cages on the Spirit of Tasmania ferry). He does his travelling these days in our one tonne (fully enclosed) trailer.

Barry, you must go through a hell of a lot of food. Our young whippet eats enough as it is. Unfortunately all good energy goes when he runs around like an idiot

@Chook - you can put Bev in as a definite starter.
Bev will bring the car (but I'll be on the Bandit) so we can pack a few camping chairs and even a camping table into it. Hammy and I got a park bench seat/table arrangement this year because we got there super early and occupied it all day (it was overlooking Siberia which meant we could see the Turn 4 passing action). But the chairs etc in the car would be handy because we could seat more even if we were using the supplied park bench seat/table.
It is pretty unlikely that we'll buy the 3 day track pass, and each just get a Sunday ticket. But I'm assuming others may want the 3 day track pass to watch practice and qualifying and any other races on the program.

As I haven't been there before I was thinking of the 3 day pass. What am I likely to be up for?

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
I don't think 2016 prices have been released yet MM but I don't think it should be too far into the future. There is usually early bird specials - this blurb from the 2015 race gives some idea:
There will also be other options, eg Bar SBK which gets you into one of three designated sections that contains seats (plastic chairs) and a bar. You pay for drinks (they are not included in the ticket price). It really only gives you a plastic seat and possibly some shade in a marquee as there are bar outlets for those that just but general admission tickets. I say "possibly" as there isn't enough undercover area for all those that have tickets to those areas and it's first in best dressed if it's raining or you just want to get out of the sun. I seem to recall the 3-day Bar SBK was over $200. Some info here but no prices.
https://tickets.worldsbk.com.au/
It will be an issue for all attendees to consider. Looking at the above 2015 prices, I might change my mind and by an early bird 3 day pass (if the 2016 prices are similar).
Six of the best reasons to buy now!
- Save Heaps: 3 day general admission tickets are only $110 now or $150 at the gate. Adult Sunday tickets are $75 now or $90 at the gate
- Free Paddock Friday: Access to the paddock and the rider;s autograph signing session - all Free on Friday
- Kids Free: Children 15yo and under are free with a paying adult and have access to the Kids Free Super Zone
- Stand on the Starting Grid: Purchase your 3 day general admission or Bar SBK ticket before 12th December and go into the draw to be one of 4 lucky winners to be on the starting grid fro Race 1 of the World Superbikes
- Group Bonus: Pre-purchase 7 general admission or Bar SBK tickets and receive 1 free ticket of the same value
- Express Lane Check in: Pre purchase your 3 day ticket and take advantage of the Express Lane at Gate 1

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
My info turned up last week. I've been in their "Loyalty Club" for yonks.
$99 3 day pass. $90 Camping. Bar SBK $220. (Loyalty prices)
If you get a group buy they would probably put you in the database for future years.
Background info:
I'm heading down too and will pick up a house near you guys, so if anybody is loitering quietly in the background there will probably be a spare bedroom or two available. (Stay tuned to this channel)
I'll be staying Monday for the Afterburners Track Day and on Tuesday will head after whoever is hanging over east before going to the Grampians. (I'll be going over there as well)

Re: Phillip Island WSBKs (2016 National Meet)
I'm thinking a pretty quiet ride around the coast to Sale or maybe a bit further on Monday, I'd be happy to hang around there until you caught up and go for a ride across the Alps.#Tag wrote:

I'll be looking for pretty basic (cheap) accomodation Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night, pub room, cheap cabin etc, any locals got any suggestions. Thursday night I'd want to be within 1/2 hr or so of Tullamarine, I reckon I'll get Kaylah a Thursday afternoon/evening flight to Melbourne, they seem to be a heap cheaper than Fridays

That would be the Tullamarine Airport car park ....

Fantastic. I'll pop over for a drink. I assume a bottle of red will get me in?

Chook,
No worries. Ewok and me (and 2Wa if he doesn't feel well at work and sticks his head for a day or 2) know the mountains well. I'm sure we can all knock up a plan over a bucket or two of red at the Island.
Ewok , no, I'll do the popping over (I remember vaguely how badly you hurt poor ol' me on a previous Forum gathering) and yes, I'll go via the General Store/Groggery on Phillip Island Rd (100 metres from the house you picked that you craftily didn't mention previously)

There's still room if you want to join us
