hello there - has anyone fitted these?  i got some the other day and according to the instructions you use the original end weight bolt to  hold them on.  so i unscrewed the right hand bolt and pulled it out however when attempting to screw it back it, the bolt [which is quite long] is now rotating in thin air and not going into whatever was in before.  the left hand side seems ok.  so the question is what's inside there - i have a feeling i should have loosened it and pulled whatever it screws into out as well.....

any thoughts?

I've never fitted Barkbusters , but the end weight bolt pulls up on a rubber grommet with a" loose" nut on the other side of the grommet . The bolt should only be loosened ( not removed ) & then pushed in to release the force on the grommet & then pull the whole assembly out.You now have the option of buying another grommet , nut etc & leaving the old one in there , or taking the other side weight out & poking something through the bars to push it out ( small piece of rag on a piece of stiff wire ).

Although not seeing how the instructions are written I would expect the intent is to remove the bar end as a whole, attach it to the barkbuster then re-insert into handle bar and tighten up.
Good instructions would have come with a warning not to do what you have done.

If you can't push it out from the other side, you could try making a small hook out of some stiff wire and try pulling it out.
Good luck.

yep did the same thing the first time, but never again, just loosen bolts to get them to pull out.A thin but solid bit of wire with a slight hook on the end and some patience managed to save the day.
Good luck.

I did the same thing the other day fitting my heated grips. If you take the bolt out and gently push it in and turn at the same time you may be able to grab the nut.

Worked for me.

Otherwise I'd use a bit of coat hanger wire with a hook on the end to pull the rubber out then the nut should just fall out.

Phil.

Been there and done that myself. I used the air compressor to blow it out then put a dob of black silicone on the end of the bolt so the nut wouldn't be able to unwind too far

GUILTY !
Did the same thing too....the first time. Just loosen it and remove the bar-ends with the rubber grommets still attached.
I used a long threaded coachbolt to grab the rubber grommet left inside the handle bars......it worked for me.

I added some ally strap to the inner edge on mine as I have heated grips and extra switch gear on the bars and did not like the way the existing strap clamped over these items.
As pictured: Hope it helps someone.
