Post  stretch Fri 11 Jun 2010, 9:20 am

I got a few local quotes for a set of Iridium CR7EXI plugs for the 1250 ranging between $107 - $122. A search on Ebay finds Discount Car Products 44nmj in the UK. Price including delivery $AUD51. Plugs arrived in 6 days from the Old Dart, Excellent service. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Thats the biggest benefit, dont need to be changed every 12K like the manual says. Most long life plugs are good for up to 100K. My AU ute says to change the long life plugs at 150K !!!!
So yeah will leave these in for 50k then maybe change if needed. Thats if i still have the bike.

I'll pull mine out at the 24k service but they'll be going back in if they look ok.
I have a set of standard plugs in my EL Falcon coming up to 170,000k.
Modern oils and EFI engines don’t go through plugs like they used to.

I am trying to source some Iridium plugs for my bike. Has anyone brought a set lately?

I'm not having much joy via Ebay or other sources?

Any ideas?

Just to add to this topic I wanted to know how many of you are currently using Iridium plugs at the moment in your bike,
and if you have noticed any significant improvement in power/performance over the standard type apart from the obvious fact that they last longer
e.g. any dyno results with a before and after instal would be interesting to view as there is a lot of hype out there saying performance gains are to be had with iridium plugs.

I have used iridium on my drz 400 and noticed a difference In it ran smoother and started easier.
I haven't done with the bandit cause I can go down to my local car part shop and get 8 standard cr8e for the price of one iridium

Iridium may last longer but you still want to pull them regularly or the may fuse them self to the head

I ran one in an Aprilia Pegaso I once owned and it improved the running slightly on that - easier starting and seemed a little smoother. That was a single pot 5 valve Rotax, twin carb, twin pipe. Maybe the benefit shows up in single bangers but I'm not in a rush to run them in my rotax twin (f800) nor the GSX.

I agree 100%. Removing snapped off plugs is a prick of a job.

I got a set for NZD$53 delivered from EBay. Cheaper than standard plugs. No difference whatsoever but presumably will last longer

I had I mercury V6 200hp EFI outboard a couple of years ago.

The only way to stop it eating platinum plugs every 20 hours was to switch over to iridium plugs.

We used to get over 100hrs from a set.......... they last! Smile

Had Iridium's in mine since about 10k... now done toward 35k. At last service the guy told me they were as good as new... don't know if they give better running or more power but more economical in terms of longevity. I had a set in a Cordia Turbo I once owned (from new) they lasted about 150k... pirat

Iridium plugs Empty Autolite Iridium

Post  geekay007 Mon 25 Jun 2012, 4:59 pm

Just put a set of autolites in. Cost about $36 for the plugs from the states. I bought them when I ordered the Tfi box, K&N and fork brace, so I'm not sure of the postage cost. Anything under $50 is reasonable. The bike starts eaiser and seems to pull through the revs a midget dick's quicker. The bike had 18500 km when I changed the plugs and oil. The NGK's looked good, plenty of electrode left, a nice brown grey colour. Could have done another 25,000 ks easy.

Hopefully I wont have to change them again, because the B1250 is a pain in the arse to change plugs on. Removed the thermostat/filler housing just to get some room to move, and figured I'll flush the coolant while I'm at it. Went and bought a repco 3/8 drive uni joint because they are pretty small and I also used a uni jointed ratchet with a 2 inch extender. It made the job a bit easier. After I finished I realised the el cheapo, cheese grater metal, spark plug socket in the the tool kit would have probably been quicker.

P.S.

I've been running the K&N for about 5000ks. Checked it when I changed the plugs. The filter was clean as a whistle. Absolutuely not a speck of dust in the airbox. People hesitate putting them on or doing a stage 2 mod for fear of dirt and grime going there. I can tell you that it's not a problem at all. We've had some of the wettest days during the last few months here in Sydney, and I ride everyday to work, about 40k/s roundtrip. The cleaner element was free of dirt and completely dry. Also not a drop of oil dripped off the filter. The airbox was clean and dry.

I thought the bandit was fairly easy to work on. i didnt remove thermostat housing. The sparkplug sockets in the toolkit were designed like they are for a reason.
