sdecovers update
g,day everyone, just an update as to why my right hand sidecover cracked.after buying a new genuine part.after inspecting seat base,i found that there is a inner plastic lip, runs parralell to outsde edge of seat, this lip was slightly wider on right side, thus it was pressing in top of cover, hence the crack.when i fitted new cover i insertsd a piece of rubber to make sure inner lip cleared cover.seems good now also has anyone had a slight fuel leak from black plastic manifold.on number 4 cylinder, just after throttle body?apparently it is common.ahd there is a way to tighten??regards.chris

Re: sdecovers update
That sounds odd for a injected bike or is it a Carb model?

Yep it's not a myth. My Bandit leaked fuel from the intake boot. Undo the small bolt and remove the spacer (that sits inbetween the outside hose clamp, it's about 3mm long) and retighten. Mine hasn't leaked since

Re: sdecovers update
I'll try and post a pic later. I left mine for a while and it's got a fuel stain down that back of the right hand cylinder. I ended up fixing it because it got so bad the bike smelt like fuel when I shut it off, I was a bit worried that it'd combust if I left it any longer.

If you go to the pic in gus's post, i found out, in the mechanical area. Its the black clamp at the base of the throttle body.
Thats where mine leaks anyway.

Re: sdecovers update
So when do you see fuel leaking?
Surely a poor seal there also leads to a vacuum leak when the engine is running.
Its never been raised on this forum before and I havent seen anything on MaxSuzi or TWT.
You learn something every day I guess. Still not sure if its "common".
My shat starter motor was supposedly common but its the only one on here

Re: sdecovers update
2wheels it doesn't drip, more of a seep. It evaporates quickly but leaves the fuel additives behind which stains the back of the block if you understand what I am saying.

Lots of people have had it. Looks like oil, but it's the non evaporating residue from fuel. If your valley behind the no. 4 injector is brown.....
Just be prepared for a bastard of a time attaching the nut to the end of the long threaded screw. When you take it out to file down the spacers, it all springs apart. You will need right angle pliers or get creative with taping the nut to something, because fingers don't fit. You will swear. A lot.

Re: sdecovers update
That will be the stain on Baz's blue Bandit that he traded in on the GSX before he bought the BMW

I was reading this post and thought it sounded familiar ... how come the suzuki mechanic didn't know what it was? the blue SA had other problems as well.Re-Cycled wrote:That will be the stain on Baz's blue Bandit that he traded in on the GSX before he bought the BMW
I've found out a few things about the beemer, like the fuel filter is outside the tank and the speedo is damn accurate if the F6 speed detectors are anything to go by and its cheaper to run
but I promised not to post bmwish stuff so shut up Baz

Re: sdecovers update
Would this have anything to do with the stain I get on the right-hand side of the cat?

Re: sdecovers update
No. If the stain on the Cat was due to fuel you'd be on fire for sure.
The stain on the cat is the discolouration of chrome due to the high heat the cat runs at. Easiest thing to do is smash it out then it won't get that hot ever again

No its a different stain to that, its very local, looks like something dripping on it. Thing is I can't work out where it would be coming from
