Bandit update
ok the accessor has been and ran his red pen over the Quote.
as it now stands no new cowling no new tank off to the panel shop for some paint and panel and some other bits and pieces
Bob my repairer is arguing that its very hard to paint my bike not even spray painters can actually accurately match the paint, why is this so i do not know
i did say to the adjuster that if he wants to paint the bike he paints the whole bike cause i am not accepting it if the paints not a match but he assures me that it will right so its off to the panel shop for a discussion and if its a complete respray, its out with the blue and in with the metallic white nice

Re: Bandit update
I think our biks have an unusual fleck in the paint. I've not seen a car like mine.
White eh? How about the heritage colour scheme?

Having touched up the red on mine, it's 4 layers: grey primer, a browny red basecoat with a pearl in it, then a red clear, then a clear coat. It's a hard one to match

Re: Bandit update
5 years ago,I had a stupid dick back his ute into my bike and knock it over, dent in tank, scratched fairings etc: my local bike shop fought to have new fairings by saying that "the farings are an injected dye and couldn`t be painted",I played the game and went "yeah..yeah thats right they can`t be painted" so the insurer gave me a big fat cheque for $4000, didn`t make me have the bike fixed, just gave me a cheque. I did get new fairings, but to this day,I still haven`t put them on, and i`ve got more stone chips through traveling than what damage was actually done from when it was knocked over. You can`t` convince me they can`t be painted, but anyway the moral of the story is, they are supposed to be an injected dye!!

Re: Bandit update
A lot of the Suzuki paints are 'candy' paints which are very expensive to do and very difficult to match. A lot of panel shops wont get involved with candy because its to much trouble.
Personally I wouldn't be accepting a part respray.

Part respray. No way. As has been stated. Very hard to match. Even for the pros. I did my second hand grab rail 3 times before I was happy. Silver metalic base coat. You can pick it if you look close, but from a distance it looks OK.

I have a mate who is a bike repairer .I spoke to him about the Bandit paint .He new all about it and said he could do it and had the paint numbers.
He is either very good or very ordinary .He has been in the trade for ages so unlikely the be the second .
Showed me a tiny tin of the paint and told me the price , nearly choked .

Re: Bandit update
A mate had his blue K9 repainted after the insurance company declined to replace plastics. A crap job - thick paint, different match in different light. I was lucky when mine went down to get new plastics. The candy red is hard to match. A good painter can do it but it'd be expensive and not much dearer to simply replace the parts
