Re: is it worth it
I always like a good project but I think it would be cheaper (and safer) to trade your non-ABS and buy a factory fitted bike. From the wheel sensors, wiring loom, computer changes, I don't think you could get all the parts unless buying new. IMHO

Re: is it worth it
it is available on the bike (new was ~$500 premium over a non ABS bike) for which you'd prob pay a small amount extra for at buying time.
If you are talking about retrofitting the ABS stuff to your bike then IMO forget it unless you can pick up a wrecked bike (or all the bits and pieces - and there are lots) for less than $1.5k. If you have a non ABS and really really want a ABS bike, you should seriously consider trading or upgrading to a later model with ABS as it would be less of a hassle (unless you're into that kind of thing)
Out of curiosity I priced all the bits I could think of way back when and brand new parts was guna be over the $3k mark. I'm sure I forgot or didn't know of some of the little details/parts at the time too.

if your going to buy a bike with ABS then so be it, other wise just learn to pulse brake in the wet or dirt in an emergency
