First topic message reminder :

Hey Riders,

Those of us who ride B12's will probably know that the engine starts to kick from 6000rpm and up. By that I mean if you are in or slightly above that rpm and you grab a fist full of throttle it will haul. Or if you do the same but at say 5,000rpm you will notice a power band once you reach 6K+. Front wheel gets really light or even comes away - feels good when you're expecting it to happen.

Now on my 1250FA I'm not finding any real kick. It has K&N, Healtech FI tuner, X-TRE, Two Bros slip on. Torque down low and mid is excellent and I would say superior to the B12 in that department.
Up the higher end it's just not there. Reason I bring this up is today I hit the rev limiter totally by accident whilst waiting for the power to come on. Yes it powered away but not like my B12 with a poor mans stage 1 (jets, needle adjustment, K&N, slipon and 1.5" hole in the airbox lid).

Am I comparing apples with apples or have I got it all wrong and the FA is just in need of a set of Yoshimura cams?

Summing it up, I'm feeling a bit dissapointed in my FA when I compare it with my old K6 B12.

I just got 130hp out of a mate's with the Dale Walker headers, TFI, open airbox/K and N and secondaries out. He is very happy. Got some photos of Dale's headers when I did the install at: http://kewwibike.blogspot.com/2011/10/holeshot-headers.html

That's a good and impressive effort.
Shall I break out the FZ1 specs? Laughing

Kewwig, On your mates bike, were Dales stage 2 TFI settings changed due to the headers installed?

Yes. He bought the TFI and headers and K and N from Dale, who had set the TFI to what you could describe as Stage III, which is essentially a fully opened airbox and his headers on top of the Stage II setup, which I have. I was initially worried about the settings being different to mine, as I wouldn't have thought the headers would make such a difference, but there you go. (And in accordance with Dale's request to clients, his settings aren't shared, so please, no one go asking me for them).

I pulled the secondaries at the same time as I fitted the headers, so it went from stock (other than a slip-on) to Stage III. This is the third 1250 I have fitted with the TFI/pulled secondaries and I am absolutely convinced of the benefits, and can do the mods quite quickly.

I haven't bothered to dyno my bike as it is really an academic exercise. It's faster and more responsive and I like it a lot. My mate was interested in the results, so he paid $93 for a dyno test at local dealers Motormart (Honda), and they reported 130.8 hp at 270 km/hr on the dyno. I wasn't there, but have no reason to disbelieve him. Sport Rider got 27 extra hp with those mods. Their initial dyno reading was low, but the proportion change is similar.

Dale posts dyno pulls of 132.2 hp and 96.29 lb/ft (see below), so my mate's results are consistent. I haven't ridden his since doing the work, but riding with him it absolutely flies and he's a big guy. If we were going to do it scientifically we would have dynoed it before I touched it, but why bother.

I can see some sceptics chiming in, but the results are consistent. I'll see if I can get a copy of his results and post them.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the headers as they cost too much to get to NZ. I'd rather get better handling and do the suspension.

Even Stage II without the headers is pretty good. It really gets up an howls and the rideability is just as good as ever, but more torque and power

My chart had 132+hp with lines jagged at the top like that, but he smooth it out, which dropped it by 2hp

so,i found my dyno pull from 07 on my 03 1200,at the time had 75000km on it..all i`ve got on is a yosh can, no headers or air box mods done,and was tuned for mid range,not up top, as you can see by the drop off at about 8500rpm and typical 1200 bandit peeks at 9200rpmB1200 vs B1250 - Page 3 Test_p13

Impressive from just a pipe change and lean as buggery jetting. I found that shifting at 8,500rpm as opposed to 9,500rpm (on my '06 1200s) at the drags dropped my times by about .3 sec but also I had slightly slower trap speeds.
We must all remember though that all dynos are not equal and should really only be used as a reference to themselves to see if a change in mapping etc had a positive or negative effect.

It's true dyno's need to be calibrated very now and then. The bloke I went to said his got compared with a brand new one after his got rebuilt under warranty last year.
