tell me what you think this could be...
2007 b1250
20,000km
fresh oil and filter
dead cold

start engine and I can hear what I would say sounds like hydraulic valve lash adjusters pumping up because this sound lasts for about 3 or 4 seconds and then dies away.

I stop the engine after running for about 20 or 30 seconds and wait another 30 seconds and restart. no sign of this noise.
will only do it on a cold start not on a hot start, a warm start or even a little bit warm start. must be cold as a maggot.

I have an idea but am interested in what other b1250 owners think.
I have it on video too.
cheers!

I always figured it was the cam chain tensioner.

Mine did that for a couple of days after an oil & filter change once ..............never done it since . I Goggled it , and on some bikes ( kwakas in particular) , it said if you drain the oil & change the filter with the oil filler cap still in place , and don't pre fill your oil filter it can sometimes cause this .................go figure  Question

I wonder if its the chain tensioner? funny though it behaves like its oil pressure related and the tensioner is auto adjusting under spring pressure?

Its the cam tensioner about to drop into the next notch on the adjuster. in 1000km it won't make the noise.
You will notice it more with fresh oil.

I just read to try to nudge it into the next notch, rock the bike back and forth in gear engine off to rock the crank and therefor the cam chain to try and get it to drop.
good idea?

Mate, SEQ is NOT cold!   Wink Wink  Try starting in a long Canberra winter (I commuted on the Bandit for many years) - up to minus 10c.

PS: I didn't experience that issue but I often had to hit the starter a second time - something I've never had to do down here at the coast with milder temps.

cheers
