MRA Vario Touring Screen
First topic message reminder :
I bought a MRA VArio Touring screen and while I have no pics just yet (need to clean the bike and take some for the calendar as well) I can say if you want to stop wind buffeting then this screen will do it, yet you can dial in some wind if you still want it.
I still get noise in my helmet though especially my right ear ... I'll be deaf very soon, I even got an MP3 player with noise cancelling earphones which work ok but then I still have music blaring in my ear .. going deaf with a beat.
After Easter I'll post up some pics and report more after more experimentation

Mate, the limit up in the Territory is still 130km/h, so if I get one of these (and the chances are good), I'll drop in a report.

Re: MRA Vario Touring Screen
Sorry for the stupid question, but is the MRA Vario the screen and "aerofoil" thingy or just the thingy?
Cheers!

Re: MRA Vario Touring Screen
Well I dunno....
I read the reviews, liked the visuals and so outlaid the coin. Adter fitting it and doing 1000kms or so with it, to be honest it does very little for me. Protection is not what I expected and my pillion found she gets quite a bit of buffeting. I'll be looking for something else before I do any long distance touring. Having said this, I know it's always going to be a compromise. 200km/h+ blasts to get around road-trains is not something I'd like to do with a big wind dam, so the research and trial and error process moves on. If I find something, the vario will be available, else it goes into the shield cupboard.
Bill.

Re: MRA Vario Touring Screen
Screens are such a personal thing, you never know for sure how a particular screen will work for you until you try it.
I'm very happy with the MRA Vario - I hope you can find something that suits you.

Re: MRA Vario Touring Screen
The front of that Honda is so ugly it should be put down .
Try taking the screen off , and start from there . I'm serious ,my girlfriends naked Bonnie is a lot noisier with a screen ON .And my Bandit .
You know those old Brabham ,S. Moss type open wheeler race car ,the screen is so tiny you wouldnt think it would do anything .
I would start from nothing and go up 1 in at a time (if you can work out how )

Re: MRA Vario Touring Screen
I find with the Vario screen when its in the uppermost postion it provides great wind protection but the noise is unbearable. you can adjust the screen to get a fine balance of wind protection and noise.
I like my vario screen

Re: MRA Vario Touring Screen
I may be being too fussy with my expectations on this style of bike.
My other bike is a BMW F650 (800)GS and I've got an adjustable Madstad screen on that. I can ride the thing at 140km/h visor up and talk on the phone through the Scala thingo in my helmet no problems. Bugs go up and over. So does the rain. My pillioninamillion also likes the still air the screen puts her in when she's looking at the back of my helmet.
As I said - very different bike and my opinion on the looks of a GS is that only a mother or a Landrover owner could love it (and I've been one of those in the past) and so putting a big shield of a screen on the thing won't do the aesthetics too much harm!! I'm reluctant to go the same path with the FA. Riding one up on the FA with the vario is fine, but the blast is definitely at the visor what ever setting I use. Putting a pillion on the back at speeds of 130 + alters that wind dynamic a fair bit. I take Gus's point tho. Start with nothing and work up. My daily commute is on 100km/h speed zone roads for about 30kms each way so plenty of room to experiment with settings each day. The quality and finish of the screen is excellent - no probs there. Anyway, good to have the discussion!
BTW - it's rider awareness week in the NT. Govt are promoting it with a nice picturegraph of a GSX1250FA in their advert in the paper. Guvmint Media unit must have good taste hey!

Re: MRA Vario Touring Screen
Over the years I have had many combinations of bikes, helmets & jackets and they all contribute in some way to buffeting or lack of. Currently my commuting jacket is a pain in the arse at highway speeds but fine around town. Same bike & helmet though.
Its hard to know how much is to much buffeting for someone else.
On a bike you're exposed and I expect some wind blast.
