Turn Signals - Page 2 Empty Turn Signals

First topic message reminder :

Did i read here of someone that had CUT DOWN their turn signals.I like the" Christmas tree look" LED ones Whitey Showed in the
Just wash it post.Trouble is i'm trying to keep myself entertained while not spending money that i didn't earn. Four blinkers plus led flasher plus
all the other little bits about $180. Cutting them down,if it can be done successfully,$0.
I dont hate the look of originals ,but i hate the way they DROOP.Ive looked at them a few times and thought this should be easy only to
put them back on untouched.I saw a post that someone did it, but carnt find it now
Any one cut theirs down?
Never mind, done it. IF anyone interested i'll post it up step by step ,3 more to do ,just ask.Takes about 15mins each to cut down, very easy.

One on the left normal. One on the right 18mm shorter, could have gone more but was happy with it.
Much better, lost the droopy look.

The difference with a round light is the sun isn't a triangle shape is it? Round equals light Laughing Shocked

I need 1 x front left side (Suzuki Townsville want $75 for 1 x genuine and $55 for 1 x non genuine. I found Supacheap have non genuine listed at $33 for a pair) but I like the look of yours shortened Gus.

I had a look at those Super cheap one . Good actually if your into that look .They are l.e.d so you will need another led flasher unit (they sell em )Then
you will need the spacer plates and it will still look like a blinker made for another model .( to me anyway ,i'm just not into TINY,TINY blinker that
dont blink very well or fit ) Someone's got to " bat for the other side side " Oh ,hang on, i'll re-phrase that . Wink

You need to "fillet " the rubber part so it fits inside then blinker housing (spray with wd40 so it slides in.)
Dont bother refitting the half noon sliver clip .Cut off extra rubber so there is space for the bulb .
Use a longer screw when refitting the clear lense so it goes into the rubber and holds it in place .
Its up to you how many lines you cut off ,the pic shows 1 st attempt .I ended cutting them all off .

Duno if it's relivent or if anyone would want to buy them, but I was in supercrap (wash my mouth out for saying that word) the other day and noticed that they now sell LED indicator kits for bikes . Forget how much the cost and can't comment on quality but they come with 2 smallish LED lights and a bit of wiring. Didn't see a LED flasher of any sort tho.
Might be an option for those that want smallish LED indicators

Turn Signals - Page 2 Empty LED replacements for indicators

Post  barry_mcki Sun 30 Oct 2011, 8:52 pm

I ordered a set of BA15S 12vdc amber replacement LEDs to change out all 4 indicators along with a LED Flasher Relay, got out my trusty cross tip screwdriver (about the only tool I am competent with), took out the filament orange bulb and tried to put in the LED unit - doesn't fit.

The Suzuki bulb (and base holder) has the locating pins (slots) at "10 and 2", whilst a normal bulb (including my new LED's) has everything at "9 and 3". Sorry about the blury photo, but hopefully you can see what I mean:

Turn Signals - Page 2 Suzuki10

Is my bike strange, does anyone know the base type for these bulbs ? The workshop manual is a wealth of info "Turn signal light bulb (12v 21w x4)".

Any help appreciated,

Thanks,

Barry

I suppose I could but at $13 a LED bulb I am not keen to mess with them, also not too sure if they would remain in tight contact, if they would work with one pin why does every bulb have two ?

The model that Suzuki has chosen is type base 1056 with 150 degree pins, the "normal" bulbs are type base 1156. Good luck finding a spare 150 degree at your local garage, actually I don't think they sell bulbs at garages any more, had to move them out for the meat pies and music Cd's.

Found this info on the Superbright site:
Turn Signals - Page 2 BAseriesbases
Turn Signals - Page 2 1156_base_mm
Turn Signals - Page 2 1056_base_mm

I did notice one company on eBay selling 150 degree LED's (packet of two for US$24), they look a little longer than the LED Shop units I have.

Turn Signals - Page 2 150degreeBA15SLEDs

I think I will be replaceing the bases if it isn't too difficult, saves stuffing around in the future.
