Trailer for behind motorbike.
First topic message reminder :
Just tossing around the idea. Anyone owned one or have any input re these beasts.
Can get tow bar for Bandit $600.
First welding project might be in the making. Exposed frame with lockable boxes bolted in, small trail bike wheels with ind suspension.

His trailer bounced on a pot hole and rolled taking his bike with itGSX1100G wrote:Hi Chook,
Coupled up & did a test lean , I'll never get that far over to jam it up, but have thought of it. Will extend plate for coupling to give more clearance, then get it registered then tinker a bit more. This is the test pig. Have a upgrade list on the shed wall.
Have already thought about a independent suspension version. If I build that I will definitely go with swivel coupling, slide out top.
Will listen to all ideas
Re: Trailer for behind motorbike.
I think when empty may be the biggest risk.
With the recessed floor most weight will be down really low and as per regs, height is the same or less than centre of wheel track. Have found design to make 360 coupling from a tractor top link and pin. Will investigate more

Don't use treg hitches they are crap. Over time the poly block deteriorates and falls apart leaving you stranded.
I had a McHitch on my last off road camper, and couldn't fault it.
And an Orac on the one before that.
Here is a site that explains most of the hitches out there

Re: Trailer for behind motorbike.
How much time are you talking?
Stored inside or outside?
I know 2 people with their original TREG hitch one 10 + years old (8x5 tradie trailer) , the other 20 + years old (camper), both still fit for service but both are kept in a shed when home.
Treg are also a 100% Australian, family owned business

Re: Trailer for behind motorbike.
Was the McHitch the one with the universal joint instead of a poly block?
They are a great hitch but the vehicles coupling would be very bulky on the back of a bike

Re: Trailer for behind motorbike.
McHitch is the uni type, very robust in design.
No cheap copies being made.
Treg type not as heavy.
Cheap copies being made and sold as Treg type.
The tractor top link and pin idea looks very promising, a combo of strength and light weight. Not designed for this but with a Cat 2 link 4.5t rating OT isn't going to be a drama on a all up weight of 250kg .

The McHitch is just a pin that replaces the ball. The one you are looking at is the McHitch Auto Coupler

Several complains on the 4x4 Forums of the polyblock failing and yes could very well be because the owners have stored their trailer in the sun.
I know ezytrail switched from treg to Mchitch because of this and the added strength

There's a couple on that page that are only for 2T so they might be a bit smaller in overall size.GSX1100G wrote:McHitch is the uni type, very robust in design.

Ah, old tradie trick.
Leave a couple of obvious defects easily seen.
Will get them and have ready, play dumb (not much playing needed) and let insp put them on.
Will have ADR for VLT's ready as well
