HELP! Radiator fan failure
Has ANYONE had problems with their radiator fan being really noisy (like a bearing collapsed and screeching) and or stop working all together?

Re: HELP! Radiator fan failure
Never heard of one failing. I'm not even sure if mine works lol Sorry not much help am I?
Re: HELP! Radiator fan failure
Mine is intermitent. Sometimes it works fine with no unusual noises, other times is really noisy (like the bearing failing - an I mean REALLY noisy) and once today it never started when it was supposed to. I have recorded the sound to play back to the dealer because Murphy's law says it won't play up when I take it back.

Re: HELP! Radiator fan failure
post the clip.
Is the bike still under warranty, can't remember how old yours is. If so it will be ,looked after by the dealer or at least should be.
If not
try here I've dealt with this mob before and they are quick and good to deal with from my experience
or try some wreckers local to you. Not sure if a bandit fan will fit straight on but as the rads are the same then they may do.
Failing that perhaps an aftermarket fan of the right size and setup might be the go

The clip is 64MB. Plus it has my dorky sounding voice in it. May be difficult to compress or post.
My bike is 2010 model so SHOULD be covered. Nice link too BTW.

Re: HELP! Radiator fan failure
being 2010 take it in and get them to look at it. Take the clip with you incase as you said it doesn't play up for them (murfys law)
If the red Fi light came on there will be a saved DTC in the ECU that they can recall and they will be able to see what was going on at the time
you'll get it replaced under warranty no probs at all i recon

+1 Never heard mine
Re: HELP! Radiator fan failure
My 650FU fan failed and was replaced under warranty. Not exactly sure why it failed. I suspect the stationary drop on the LHS might have had something to do with it, even though the mechanics said it shouldn't of.

Re: HELP! Radiator fan failure
Well now that's two fans that have failed. Nice to hear that I'm not the only one.
Four40, how did yours fail - noisy or just plain dead?
My bike is now with the dealer. I must say that I'm really happy with the way the problem has been delt with.
As soon as I said the fan was noisy and has on one occasion stopped working and the red "HELP ME!!!!" light came on, I was told to bring the bike in to us... NOW!. I now have a funky little GS500 to ride around until it's fixed. Reminds me of the bike I learnt on.
Anyway thankfully it played up for the service guy when I demo'd it for them today, nice and noisy.

Noisy with a lot of red temp light. First time I got up to speed and the light went off, but the next times, I was running the bike through the MOST test at low speed and it was very noisy and had that nice 'I'm scaldingly hot' smell. Once it was replaced, never had an issue.Full Throttle wrote:Well now that's two fans that have failed. Nice to hear that I'm not the only one.

Re: HELP! Radiator fan failure
Good news. Suzuki have replaced the fan. Was told it was a bearing which had failed. Bring on summer and rides to the Gold Coast!

Four40, while we are on the topic of fans - when does the second fan on your 1250FA operate?

I have 2?? I've only heard the fan kick in a few times, it has not been warm enough for me to notice. Bloody global warming making spring colder than usual.Full Throttle wrote:Four40, while we are on the topic of fans - when does the second fan on your 1250FA operate?

Re: HELP! Radiator fan failure
Yep, there's the one you can see with the mesh cage on it on the right side of the bike, the other is buried in the centre.
So much is packed in that frontal area - oil cooler plumbing, radiator, two fans and huge stainless steel header pipes. I was considering adding the oil cooler system to my 650, but after seeing the 1250FA's arrangement with additional fan I thought Suzuki wouldn't add that stuff for fun. There has to be a reason. Maybe the combination of the 1250 engine and fairing the bike may not be able to dissipate heat as well as a naked or semi naked hence the additional fan. Have a look at a 650F and a 1250FA togeather. The 1250's radiator is shifted over to the right so the other fan can be fitted. Overflow bottle sits over on the left. I think this is why the two additional air scoops were moulded into the fairing. Maybe the second fan is for overtemp conditions or as a backup to the first failing??

Re: HELP! Radiator fan failure
I've had the same problem come up with my 2011 naked bandit sometimes the fan is silky smooth other times it sounds like a cat's caught in it
I've made a booking with Sydney City Motorcycles as it's under waranty I hope they take it for a spin and leave the bike on long enough to hear it !

Re: HELP! Radiator fan failure
I just thought I'd say that the radiator fan was actually replaced under warranty as the bearings had seized
