Drift Innovation Ext Mic
As some of you will know have been playing with a POV video camera on the B1250. Its a Drift Innovation HD170 (1080p)
An xternal mic wasnt available when I bought it but they are now so lik a kit with a new toy I plonked down $20US and got one.
HERE is the result of the test. Its not brilliant sound quality and there is a couple of settings I can play with as well as a flash upgrade that might help.
I'm very suprised at the amount of mechanical and tyre noise the Bandit generates. The gear box sounds like a 15 speed road ranger not the slick shift heard inside the helmet.
The mic was under the seat. I'm more than happy with the video quality however. We'll get through some twisties this Friday if the weather holds and I'll be trying a few things with audio and video.

I'm not sure how you had the mike; under the seat, I thought I could hear some distortion at "full song" like you exceeded the dynamic range. I would probably wrap it in foam, if you didn't already. You can always boost the sound later if it's too quiet, but probably easier than dealing with clipping.
Another good video, lucky the speedo wasn't in shot.

Yes Peter the mic can be wound back one more stop and it is filling the audio channel in the editing software with a solid field except for when idling. I have an old pool "noodle" that has about the right size hole through it and I was tinking of cutting about 4 inches off it and fastening the mic in the hole. I couldnt use any video of the mic mounted anywhere else. Glad I have Fri off
Oh and any time the speedo is in shot the gearing has been shortened lol. It would have shown $170 towars the end of the clip lol

Nice vid.
I know nothing about sound and mics and stuff, but to me that sounds really distorted and no real sound quality.
For $20 you can't complain tho
I guess turning a few settings down as you experiment or wrapping the mic in foam will help and I'd be interested to see/hear the results as you play to get things right.
On anther note, the bandit gearbox is very noisy being all straight cut gears an all. Recon it should almost last forever
Takes me back to driving mack twin sticks and the old F1 inter

Re: Drift Innovation Ext Mic
its definitely overloading - fix that if possible and then it would be great - no wind noise and pure mechanical music
maybe try blutack on the mic

I reckon I can rig up a 35mm plastic film canister and fix that to something under the seat then just place the mic with foam inside it.
It’s a proprietary plug so I'm limited to the Drift mic unless I cut the cable and put in a couple of connections for a regular round plug mic.
It would be easier to just record the sound separate but that can get messy in editing without regular markers.
I rode to work this morning with the mic sensitivity backed off to the last point and I'll ride home with it wrapped in Blue-Tac donated by our stationery cupboard. I'll check both of them tonight. If one works I'll be happy. If not it’s the film canister for tomorrows Academy Award nominated production
Re: Drift Innovation Ext Mic
In case anyone is interested I have fixed the audio distortion with the Drift HD170. I put the mic inside a finger of a riggers glove and the sound is much better from under the seat.
I'll experement with Blu-Tac but for now this works. A 40 second sample here
