Country Bandit
Hi All,
New to the forum riding a 1996 Bandit 1200 around the Riverina ... when its running.
It has 100000kms on it and I have owned it for 2 years.
Has a few aftermarket bits I added when I registered it, wave rotors, and master cylinders, muffler, etc ...
Brings me to the meaning of joining the forum,
I have some issues with it of late.
Was running strong as ever until a week ago when it was parked in the shed - and now wont start.
Currently going through the earths and all the associated switch gear looking for better spark.
Tits or wheels they say

Re: Country Bandit
Welcome mate. Good to see an old girl.
Carbies are usually the Achilles heal of the Gen1's.
(That's a general comment, not saying anything in regards to your problem. Start a thread in mechanical issues if you need feedback) All part of the fun really.
Play with them long enough, and you'll find them real easy to live with.

Re: Country Bandit
Is it winding over? or winding over but not starting?
Cold snap might have effected the battery?
That's the limit of my knowledge.

Re: Country Bandit
I'm assuming after 2 years you have learned any quirks it may have when starting after a spell . How old is the battery ? It could be on the way out & loosing some of its reserve power for spark when turning the bike over , but if it has plenty of spark & no loose connections , maybe a fueling problem ........? . Welcome to the forum .

Re: Country Bandit
I’ll own up to hitting the kill switch. I can’t remember if the Bandit cranked or not. I know my VTR cranked with the switch off
Re: Country Bandit
Thanks for the hints fellas
I have scoured the net and the general consensus seems to be associated switchgear - rather than ECU or crank trigger failure.
It cranks over OK but has a dull spark on one side of the new coils, no spark at all on the other side.
Tested the wiring for continuity and it seems to check out OK from the ECU to the coils but cant test the ECU without special tool blah blah ...
I can get a secondhand ECU and crank trigger for $300 but are sort of thinking I need to isolate all the switches first, bypass the stand, clutch and kill switch. Hot wire it and see if it will generate spark.
I know its something simple but a few of us with half an idea have already scoured it.
A 96 with 100K on the clock and not running is worth a handful of red pocket lint.
I may as well persevere with it, sooner or later I might get a spark and get to ride it again.
Meanwhile in the depths of depression ...
I'm in the Riverina NSW - 22kms east of Narrandera.

Maybe less, I picked up a running one today with 51k on the clock for $500
Good luck with your bike brother
