What's On Your Scone?
Given that I may ask Santa to bring me a new lid this year I'm wondering what everyone here has on their scone and what you think of it particularly if you have a fat head like me?
I know all our helmets have to meet (or exceed) AS and I cant see myself in a $149 lid, I don’t think a $800 lid is twice as good as a $400 one.
I have had Arai and Bell before that my current lid is a HJC CL15 which I have found very good and mid priced too. The last HJC CL15 I chucked on in a shop was tagged as the same size as my current one (XL) but it was tighter than a fishes bum leading me to think I cant order online like I thought I would but I'll have to try a heap on. Not sure if it was tagged wrong or they have changed their shell size?
For me fit and ventilation are priorities and I'd be looking for something in black and silver if I could get it.
So if you're still with me at this point what is on your noggin?

Shoei RF1000
A bit noisy (matte finish) but it fits like a champ.
I don't pay the extra $$$ because I think they will offer better protection, I pay because of the fit, finish and features of a higher priced helmet.

I wear Sharks.
They are very light and have a thick visor.
I mainly wear them because they fit my head better than anything else.
Somr shark models do seem to be a little noisy though

Re: What's On Your Scone?
I've currently got a Shark, but have had 2 HJC's and a Bell. So far the HJC AC-11 has been my all round favourite. The current Shark is mostly white, so with the visor slightly open it casts a refection on the inside of the visor, it is driving me crazy. A black texta or tape will be the solution, I think.

I have Shoei X11. The fit is good and ventilation is excellent.
My only complaint is noise. Whilst it is not as loud as my previous Shoei, it is still loud.

Re: What's On Your Scone?
For on the weekends I have a Shoei XR1000, excellent quality, perfect fit, reasonably quiet and good visor system. This helmet is also heaps lighter than my old one but the Shark helmets are lighter still.
For during the week riding to work and uni I wear my old helmet. It's a KBC VR-2, bit noisy but a really good value helmet with a great visor system (I change my visors around heaps).
When picking out helmets you really need to try them on because they all fit different head shapes.

Re: What's On Your Scone?
Ok, seriously, I have a RJays tourtech , It fits my head good and I love the convenience of the flip up design only thing is, it's a noisy bugger. Thank heavens for earplugs.
Re: What's On Your Scone?
I run the Nolan N-102.
Mainly as it is a flip-front which is great as I need to show face to get thru' the gate at work.
I also like the extra flip down tinted visor.
I have had issues with the visors cracking (internally) although none have broken. Two visors have been replaced via warranty. Another issue is that the supplied anti-fog insert only fit the original visor. No other visor (all OEM) fits it correctly... weird! (about to fit the FogCity Hyperoptiks insert in its place. My second one. Previous was on the Shoei. I like it... )
Apart from that, it is noiser than my Shoei was (but I have not yet found a not noisy helmet for my rather large body ).
However, it has been a good helmet for the last two years and cost half the price of my shoei, which lasted me less than one.
(I would not mind trying the Shoei Multi-tec helmet, but just cannot go the $900 asking price).
As you may guess, I generally just look at flip helmets these days...

Re: What's On Your Scone?
I've got a Shoei XR 1000. Tried on every helmet I could find from about $300 up to find what I wanted. Didn't really want to spend $800 on a helmet but when I tried one on I just couldn't go back to anything else. The fit was just perfect for my head. Thats one reason you should just try on as many helmets as you can , everyone has different shaped heads! I found the more expensive helmets generally fitted better too.

Nolan X-602 Stoner Phillip Island replica had always previously used AGV but they stopped using the neck seal, so they got to noisy, I get Nolan helmets at wholesale prices so if I can help let me know.

Re: What's On Your Scone?
Currently I've got a HJC FS-15, only had it a couple of months - tax refund present.
Except for 2 helmets (AGV Goddard Replica and a Cirus) I've always had HJC CS model helmets. That's partly due to price, buy mainly due to the fact that the CS model fitted my head beautifully. The local bike shops didn't have any CS's this time round, so after trying the CL, AC and FS models, I went with the FS as it fitted the best. I don't mind it, but it's not as comfortable as the old CS models.
Oh, I should mention that in summer I use an open face HJC round town.
The AGV X vent (Goddard Replica I had) fitted well, but on the B12 it felt like it was trying to lift my head off. Where as on the old GSX600f I had no such problems. I figure it's got something to do with seating position and aerodynamics????

Re: What's On Your Scone?
Great thread!
This is slightly off topic but...........What/ how do you all safe guard your lid on your bike when you leave it out somewhere??
eg- a quick dash into the supermarket etc...
I know if you have a tank bag or similar on your bike you could put it into that. But if not??
Thanks again.

Re: What's On Your Scone?
If I'm going in to the shops, or if the bike will be out of sight I take my helmet etc with me. I know a couple of people who have had the helmets stolen. One had his helmet 'locked' on the helmet lock and some bstrd cut the strap and took the helmet.
If you had a big enough, lockable top box you could lock it up in there.

Re: What's On Your Scone?
I just bought a Shark EvoLine .. it fells quite good, more aerodynamic than my old HJC, and I can flip it to use it as an open face which is still aerodynamic.
