Vic ride 17 November 16
Some of you facebookers will know that I was out and about yesterday enjoying some of the finest roads in Vic.
As this was the first ride since repairing my radiator, I was taking it easy to start with. As I cruised out through Berwick I could occasionally catch the faint smell of burning coolant. Hoping it was just some sitting on the block that I had failed to see during my cleanup. I made it out though Upper Beaconsfield and pulled over at the Elephant Rock for a check and to locate my earplugs that I had once again forgotten to put in
Leaving there feeling a lot more confident that all was well with the cooling system, I headed up through Cockatoo, Yellingbo, Woori Yallock and then over to Warburton for a coffee break. Got chatting to a guy on an old V twin Yamaha,(sorry didn't take that much notice) he was heading off to get lost in the hills. He was a big guy and he looked pretty silly as he rode off on that tiny Yam....... I found him again at the Woods point turn off, he was stopped, I kept going, up to Lake Mountain, 10ks up 10ks down all awesome twisties with some sections having a 100kph limit
A lot of the trees never really recovered from the black Saturday fires in 2009
Lake Mountain Alpine resort
From there down to Marysville to the recently opened new pub, The Duck Inn, now there's an original name! So I thought I'd just duck in for lunch.
All I can say is I will be going back to the bakery next time I'm in town, its not that lunch was horrible but more of an expensive Melbourne restaurant fair than typical country pub and $8.50 for a stubby of light beer they can keep that! I'm sure they will do well initially, until the novelty wears out.
There was a better crowd at the bakery,
From Marysville it was back to Healsville via the black spur. If your In Vic don't get too excited about riding the Black spur, on weekends its crowded with slow moving oldies out for a weekend drive, during the week there nearly always some road works being done. For me a 2.5k section of roadworks for where they were repairing a 10m section of Armco .
From Healsville to Launching Place, Yarra Junction and across to Noojee. There's a nice section of twisties just out of Powelltown, but not for me this time it was two logging trucks bumper to bumper doing 30k for the entire section. They did eventually pull over but that was the best bit over.
A quick stop at Noojee for some water and then down the awesome Willow Grove road. No interruptions here and I made the most of it Another rest stop at the picturesque Blue Rock lake at Willow Grove
From the Blue Rock Lake i headed over some unknown roads to Neerim South, GPS said unpaved roads, must be old info because the roads were sealed and in good condition all the way. Turning off just before Neerim South and heading over to Jindivick, Longwarry, Modella, Bayles, A detour due to traffic took me down to Tooradin, Cranbourne and then home.
After such a great day it was disappointing for it to be nearly ruined by some ignorant bitch who failed to give way to me on a large roundabout near home. Luckily I was watching her, even then it was bloody close!
Here's the route for those interested

The more at work the quieter the roads are

Agree with your sentiments RE Black Spur. Reefton then Gemsbrook is an alternative. Just as likely to have the old fart day trippers but more road to enjoy. I actually preferred Gemsbrook out of the three of them. But seriously you are spoiled for choice in that area and beyond. Lucky bastard!

I think i saw one other car on the Reefton, he was coming the other way. A weekend would be different.
I like the Gembrook - Launching Place Rd too and I often ride it home after riding the spurs. This day I had plenty of time so took the road out to Noojee instead

I'm disappointed. You went straight passed my gate at Jindivick and didn't call in!

Yep the Black Spur is over rated but still a nice ride.
I hate the road from Noojee (Baw Baw turn off) to Hill end though. Too narrow for my liking.

First time I rode it I hated to too, yep it's narrow and you get a lot of debris over the road. I've ridden it a few times now, once even with a flat rear tyre
I reckon If I can ride it with a flat I can ride it any time.

Is that the road that you think is really narrow until the first of many log trucks comes at you? And then the word narrow takes on a whole new meaning.

That's the one, and the Reefton can be like that too
