Interesting observation
I went on a ride on the weekend to Walcha with a group, we left Friday in the pouring rain up the Putty rd through to Singleton, across to Dungog, Gloucester and up the Thunderbolt to Walcha.
Of the 10 bikes there were 2 Bandits, Mine and another guys, we fueled up Saturday morning for a run to Tamworth, south to Nundle and back on the Thunderbolt up to walcha.
The second Bandit, a 2011 model, standard, and my 2008 model with a gearing change (16 tooth front sprocket) used exactly the same of fuel for the 300 klm run, 15.1 Ltrs.
I couldn't believe we used the same amount as I was giving my Bandit quite a hard time seeing over 7000rpm regularly, the other rider was very sedate, we fueled up straight after each other and we both were very surprised.
I was a great weekend,1400klms all up and the bandit went like a dream.

Re: Interesting observation
19.8km/l is exceptional. I never got anywhere near that giving it the berries.
A figure like that was a general trundle to Melb on the Princes Hwy for me. (boring as bat shit!)

Re: Interesting observation
I generally get fuel economy like that or better all the time. I don't think I've ever seen it down in the 18s and usually see around 20. Oddly, out on the road, it doesn't seem to make much difference where I up the ante by 30 or 40%. Where it uses more fuel is around the town in lower gears. Gunning it up the road, dodging slow moving traffic & hitting the gaps in whats coming on, doesn't even seem to make much difference; punting around town does. Droning along, getting nowhere any time soon as one does on double points weekends gets real good economy and I've seen 22 a few times.
Contrast that with the old carbureted Honda 4 I had in the 70's which would drink fuel at 10-12 km/l if I went hard in a sustained way, and 18 was having a real good (or bad) day, or my SRX6 which is not efficient at all - 608 ccs which is reliable for 16-17km/l and 18 is just a pipe dream.
I like my Bandit.

I put fuel in when it's getting low. I wouldn't have a clue how much I put in.
My frame of reference is grins/km.
If you want economy ride a scooter.

Well put, the only time i worry about fuel is when the gauge is flashing and i can't find fuel in town. Like the other day when Mike and I rolled into Balmoral and at first couldn't find the weird self serve pumps they have in town. It would have been a very careful ride to the next town.

Another plus for the Bandit
Re: Interesting observation
I stopped doing fuel calculations after I re-built my big block Ford motor, 80lt of LPG got just over 100km (3.5mpg), mind you it was almost 8 liters pulling a 2 ton car and that 100kms was a fun bit of driving especially with the 4.11 mini-spool rear end Trouble was I couldn't drive out of town as I would not have made it to the next garage . So the Bandit even with all the extra clobber on mine is a dream fuel wise.
I too subscribe to the MM philology, when the lights flashing its time to refuel. On long trips I've also got my 10lt reserve, just in case I misjudged the next fuel stop.

Re: Interesting observation
I put fuel in when that last bar is flashing. How pissed am I, when I fill up and find I still had 5litres to empty, and gave done 280kms?

Re: Interesting observation
I'm not really concerned about economy just surprised that my bike used the same amount of fuel as another similar bike even though i was on the throttle much harder than the other rider.
