Here's a online petition to try and persuade the SA Government to consider changing legislation to allow
- Lane Filtering
- European Standard Helmets
- Parking on foot path
- Standing on pegs/remove one arm (?) or leg to stretch (I'm not sure about this, as far as I'm aware you can already take one hand of the bars in SA)

Re: Lane Filtering, Helmet Law review etc SA - Petition
What you describe, Dave, is lane splitting and is dangerous and illegal as a result.
Lane filtering is designed to get the vulnerable bikes out of a potentially dangerous position. ie waiting to be rear ended into the car infront.
In NSW the law does not allow filtering past heavy vehicles, nor filtering between kerb and any vehicle, nor filtering at any speed in excess of 30 km/h.
I have witnessed car drivers starting to recognise that a bike is filtering and moving to provide maximum space to allow for safe maneuvering. The message is getting across to drivers that it is now a legal maneuver, and I hope may encourage some drivers to adopt two wheels in order to take advantage of the fact.
I filter regularly, when on two wheels, but do not aim to get to the front at any cost. Obviously, some scenarios preclude safe filtering and I simply wait patiently in the queue with everyone else.
Too many fools on bikes doing the wrong thing will perpetuate the image of bike riders being bad for society. Hopefully not too many of the said fools learn their lesson the hard way.
