A Bonang double feature
Living up to my initials again, i picked the weather not to hot not cold, this time we were up for a Bonang double feature, yep twice the fun in one day.
A early start was required as we had decided to do the Bonang to Orbost, fuel up have some lunch and then do it all in reverse again. So the starters where the usual suspects, myself, Tag, Ron Aka Cupcake, Shawn, Raymoot, Brett and few ringins.
So it began with the usual run up the newly resurfaced Mount Darragh to Bombala for breakfast of a fine Egg & Bacon Roll and a OJ at the Bombala Bakery
after breaky and a coffee or juice in my case, splash and dash for the more thirstier bikes. We were off and running a smooth cruise to Delegate then a gentle run over the first section of gravel with a dust cloud that kept everyone's distance then we the first section of the Bonang with fast flowing bends is just a delight, pace is up, and the fun begins, on to the second section of gravel whilst quite smooth as very dusty and Ron has bit of a problem with dirt roads and his princess (GSXR1000) as he cleans his bike with WD40 that section of road was now stuck to his bike and caused a lot of grief for the young man over the scalas.
a quick regroup at the beginning of the next section of tar and we are freight training all the way to Orbost, or a march but it was just so much fun all those free flowing corners was bloody lovely. Into Orbost for lunch and a refuel.
After lunch and a Refuel it was the 2nd part of the double feature, the way home and it is just as fun on the way home as it was going down about 15 minutes in we get flagged down by a driver oops a big tree limb has fallen across the road and nobody with a chainsaw

Re: A Bonang double feature
Thanks for your reports, I appreciate it whenever someone goes to the trouble of providing an illustrated ride review.
I was disappointed earlier in the year that I didn't get to do that road after the forum guys' and especially Ewok's build up, but Murphy closed it due to fires the day I went through.
Are we to look forward to another epic Alpine Ride Video this year?

Hi Jim, where did you get that profile pic, Twisties next 105km?? I am wondering if it is within easy reach of my home base!

And if you do it from your side you can turn around at the gravel and stay clean
DPS: JC's avatar is an advisory sign that you come across after the first 15km of twisties into the Bonang Hwy coming from NSW.
It is in your backyard- down the Monaro Hwy to Bombala, then straight ahead south out of town to Delegate. The road becomes the Bonang Hwy on crossing the border. Two sections of good gravel totalling 10km and 120 km with no straights of more than a few hundred metres (and not many of them, either). Then you turn around at Orbost and do it again to get home.

The Firestorm is easy to clean so I'd tackle it on that if I could get fuel with 150km!Tag wrote:2wheelsagain wrote:I guess I'll have to do it one day.

Re: A Bonang double feature
Thanks man, sounds brilliant. I'll probably give the 120km of gravel a miss as I'm only returning to riding after a long time off and not wanting to scratch another fairing, let alone with the bike in motion .
Cheers,

Re: A Bonang double feature
So I probably should rephrase that then:
Of the 130 km from the border to Orbost, 10 km is gravel and 120 km is bent asphalt.
Like whatCupcake Ron and Ray are standing on in photo 4

Thanks !Tag
Well that makes the whole destination infinitely more appealing. Will be looking for some good weather some weekend soon to do that ride. Anyone else around Canberra region want to go have a look? Just don't laugh too much if I ride like your grandmother on that 10k of gravel...

It was a bit that way on the weekend, Chris. The suspension rebuild and the Powercommander have finally dug out the little orange hussy I knew was lurking somewhere inside it. It was a true delight.

And why do the laws of probability always dictate that if you get tired and have a little lie down that the first thing to come round the corner will be the Google Street View car JC's bike?
