Bonang Hwy Empty Bonang Hwy

Post  Ewok1958 Sun 17 Mar 2013, 9:11 pm

Met up with Jimcoleman and friends for a ride down the Bonang Hwy ride today. All up I ended up doing just on 600kms so it was a long day and I'm now feeling buggered. But it was a great ride, made even better by no-one falling off on the 17kms of dirt road that makes up part of the Bonang Hwy, including moi. There were a few showers resulting in some wet weather gear changes but the showers were pretty light (light enough that I didn't get any more than we slighty damp sleeve end despite just wearing normal jackets/pants). I met the group at Wyndham and from there we went to Bombala (via Mt Darragh), Dlegate and then Orbost (for lunch). Then back along the Prince's Hwy to Cann River then home via whatever suited best (in most cases the Cann Valley Hwy back to Bombala). The Bonang Hwy (from Delegate to Orbost) is 105kms of twisties and you have to get into a groove riding it or else you're never going to make it. Everyone seemed to manage and I only had one moment going approaching a left-hander a bit hot - snapped the throttle shut, grabbed some brake and changed down to 3rd - back wheel skipped to the right on the wet tar, helping me lean it over - this bike must know the road! No other scares for me but I thought I saw a car over the side of the road near Goonerah but can't be sure (too busy watching for the next corner). Got stuck behind some semis on the Cann Valley Hwy throwing up lots of spray and keeping visibility down through a splattered visor. The group kindly waited for at Imlay Rd and waved me on - I though I'd better do the right thing and keep the pace up when it was clear on the long, open streches south of Bombala. Must have dozed off there because I thought I saw 202 on the speedo but I assume it was a dream. Sleep No Not that I was putting any distance on the group - and in fact, I got overtaken by all to again find myself tail end charlie. pale To sleep or not to sleep, that is the question! Question Thansk to Jim and friends for the invite - glad the weather was pretty well behaved so that we could enjoy the day. Cheers. cheers

Here's a few pics:
Lined up in Bombala - there were more bikes on the other side of the road but many did not do the Bonang Hwy.

Bombala - the cafe next to the servo made good salad rolls.

Think you're right mate. Was still raining this morning so the FZ didn't even come to work.

Good one James - looks like all 4 cameras were working fine. It captures the road nicely.
