Bandit Paint type? Empty Bandit Paint type?

Post  Craig67 Wed 27 Aug 2014, 9:49 pm

Does anyone know if Suzuki use a 2 pak paint system or a clear over base type as my bike has some deep scratches on the tank where my old tank bag dug in to the paint on a long trip. The bike is 2010 1250 with black paint with a blue metallic flake through it Any ideas appreciated. Cheers.

sorry not sure but it looks like clear over base to me / scratches pretty easy , I use Maguires yellow wax polish to put a protective coat on it . You could try Suzuki , or let a spray painter look at it.............they should be able to tell for sure .

Doubt it's 2pack, it's too thin, probably 1 pack Razz sounds like a job for a spray painter mate. I learnt the hard way too with magnetic tank bags on my 250 luckily

I've owned many bikes over the years. Even other Suzukis but I'm sure the coating on the Bandit 1250 can't be called paint! Not sure what it's called but it shouldn't be called paint Sad

A spray shop will be able to help but the black will be hard to match because of the fleck.

Do you know of any automotive manufacturer that doesn't use a 2pack system? Because I don't.

It'll be 2 pack base with a 2 pack clear coat.
Just that Suzuki are skimping on paint thickness to save money

It is 2 pack for sure, what type? polyurethane? High solid? Ceramic?
You have to remember the paint bike manufactures use would be different to cars as parts like fuel tanks take a beating, petrol, clothing and tank bags take their toll.
Car manufactures are cutting back big time on paint, if you look at most new cars especially silvers you can see right through to the primer, they use a tinted primer so its not so noticeable but it gives us painters hell trying to match colours.
I've found the paint on my bike quite good although I haven't played with it too much.
When trying to remove scratches on your bike or car be very careful, there's only enough clear to look good, when I get a chance I'll measure the paint thickness on my bike and compare that to my wife's new Corolla and post the results
