Shock Treatment
I am not sure if this is the right place to post this so i hope its allright. My rear shocker (08 GSF 1250 non ABS) regurgitated its lunch and i am looking for a replacement, or advice on repairing or any possible solution to my dillema.
I am hopelessly broke (no job) and OEM replacement is prohibitively expensive. Even enquiries into repair/reseal started getting worrysome and I would still be stuck with a shock that is adequate at best.. I have heard that some other Suzuki models are interchangeable such as GSXR1000/750 and are better quality... Does anyone have a rear shocker that would fit my beastie? Perhaps from a wreck or as a result of an upgrade... Or can anyone advise me as to possible repairs or alternatives that might work.... Any info or support is most welcome..
In case anyone is interested I have an OEM exhaust (doesnt everyone! ) Its free to someone in need.. I am in Goolwa South Australia but I go cityside occassionally... Thanks in advance

I threw my original shock in the bin . Pity ,you could have had it . I'm sure a cheap useable one will turn up to get you back on the road .

Re: Shock Treatment
Might be worth ringing around a few wreckers. There must be plenty of busted Bandits out there.

Re: Shock Treatment
Go gsxr shock. Cost landed from yank land is around $130. Most of them are low km so don't require rebuilds either

Shock horror
Thanks for the responses Ewok, Gus, Reddog and 2wheels. I have started looking for GSXR1000 shock online but so far the best I got was $180 plus $20 postage but I will start contacting SA and Vic m/cycle wreckers and see where it leads me.

Re: Shock Treatment
Hi Diablo,
I've got a 2010 non-abs gsf1250 with 4500km on the clock. I was considering upgrading the shock to something else. What is your budget? I might be able to help.

Re: Shock Treatment
Gus he did mention non ABS in the original post, so the GSXR shock will be absolutely perfect. I know they don;t fit in the ABS modelas it made me sad finding that out the hard way
Becomes areally expensive option having to buy an Ohlins or Wilbers shock. Buying something with a remote preload adjuster is high on the agenda for me as is doing the front end.

Oh Bugger I had forgotten that Gus.. I have sourced an 03 GSXR1000 shock for $150 shipped.. Do you know if that will fit? They look identical to the later models right through to 2012 online...If you do still have the spare brackets (dog bones) and they fit, I am interested. You are in Qld and I am in South Oz should be $20 or under for standard parcel post I believe.
Regards
Diablo
P.S. No ABS gus, 2008 GSF1250S non ABS ..

Re: Shock Treatment
You just have to check the shock length compared to the Bandit. The 06 07 shock I had meant you needed dog bones that were 5mm longer from memory

Put in " gsxr 1000 shock " in to the SEARCH BOX . Its all there . Yes I have spare dog bones that will make it the right height .
Important bit ----07-08 .

Re: Shock Treatment
hey mate.
this is what I`ve got. probably shouldn`t be showing you a photo of the top one, as this is an 07-08 gix 1000, but keeping it, as will be putting it on my gen 1. But the other 2, are up for sale if your keen.
Now if someone would like to measure the 1250 shock, you can then make up your mind. I believe they`re supposed to be the same as the 1200`s.
The bottom shock is off my 03 1200, that was rebuilt, and I only did about 10 000k`s absolute max. It is 323mm long, and has been sitting in the cupboard for years. It had a gold rebound valve put in it. I didn`t really notice a huge difference to tell you the truth, but is in good condition.
The yellow shock, is off a 05-06 gix 1000, and is the same measurement. I bought it from the US, about 6 yrs ago, and never used it. It was supposed to have had about 6000miles on it. It is in very good condition.
An 07-08 appeared on ebay, a week after I received the 05-06, so bought it, as for the better damping control, in the quest for a superior shock. I had to change the spring, as it was to soft, and while I was at it, gold valved the whole thing. This cost a lot all up!!! another reason why I wont sell it, as I`ll never get my money back on it.
So, have a think about it. With a standard length shock, you won`t have to change the bones.
