tyre pressure Empty tyre pressure

Post  potatomasher Sat 10 Jul 2010, 5:15 pm

i have found something interesting. a while ago i had a set of pirelli angels fitted which are good tyres. the front one i have discovered has a very slow leak - dont know where from but it loses about two pounds every couple of weeks.

anyway what i have found is that if the front tyre gets down to about 34 pounds, the bike has a very strong tendency to drop into a corner so now i make sure i check it each week and put it back to 36. however today i put 38 pounds in it, and the steering is so much better its was amazing. i know that occasionally when i have been on the OPH, the bike has not felt at all right and other times it has felt very good [obviously depending on when i have been in relation to the front tyre pressure] - but today i went for a run there with 38 in the front and the steering was 1000% better

wot's everyone run their tyres at?

Run 38 front and 42 year. I notice a huge difference if the front tyre is down in pressure a little bit.
I know suzy says to run 36 front, but im much happier with 38.

Keep in mind that it is winter and you get nowhere near as much heat in your tyres on a ride.
If you put that sort of pressure in during summer, things could be drastically different.
I usually run tyres 5-6 PSI lower on track days to account for the pressure increase when the tyres warm right up.

I run Angels as well and use 36/42. Coincidentally the front has a very very slow leak. I will be getting angels again.

Mine is a pig with 36 in the rear!
All year round I run 38 front 40 rear and I can really tell the difference when my plugged rear drops 4psi almost like it wont lean over.

EDIT: Only talking cold pressures and checked in my garage........... Around the block to a servo will be enough to alter your pressures tongue

36/40 all year with or without pillions. Tried 38/42 for a while but found it didn't ride as well.

I often run lower PSI in winter for bigger footprint. Is that a bad idea?

Roadsmarts - 41 front & 41 rear as per manufacturer's guidelines.
