Staintune problem continues Empty Staintune problem continues

Post  Cameron Fri 09 Jul 2010, 7:10 pm

I got western motorcycles to contact staintune about my problem with rust.

They basically told them the same thing they told me.
They said as the pipe itself will not rust, its a metalic based compound that has come off the road and started to rust on the surface of the pipe.

Im must be hard to please, but im still not satisfied. They said to polish it off and it should be ok. I have done this, but is now back worse then ever. So if it was somthing off the road, once i polish it off, shouldnt it be gone for good if its not the actual pipe itself?
Also, they have still not told me what it is that has come off the road. surley if they have come up with this excuse, they must know what it is that rusts? Or is it just somthing they have thought up to put peoples mind at ease?
I will contact them again myself during the week. Until they can tell me what the substance is that is rusing, i wont be happy.

Just invite them to show you how easy it is, that should be interesting.

Best would probably be a run down to Staintune (Mittagong?) and see if they stand behind their products... If not, then why should we support local manufacturers?

does the OEM muffler do the same thing. Mine never did and I live and ride next to the beach every day. In fact I ride on a road that gets waves washing across it from time to time. I've not heard of the OEM pipe doing this so why is yours.

Take it off (I can't believe I said that), polish it, leave it damp and put it in the shed for a week or two and see if it rusts again. If it does it can not be related to road grime

Call Staintune (02 48723188) and explain you are not happy, ask them if you bring the pipe down for them to re-polish for you, will they do that. Whilst you are there they can examine the pipe to see if there is a problem, and explain to what may be causing it. Because we need to remember Stainless steel DOES NOT RUST!!!

Well ive just send another letter off to staintune this morning. Will be good to see what thay say this time.
I polished it and got alot of it off then it sat in the garage for 6 weeks with out even being started...wheeled it out of the garage this morning and the rust is back worse then it has ever been.
So again with the excuse its road grim, how can that appear when it hasnt been riden at all? Hmm scratch

sounds like it could possibly be a faulty product.

it happens from time to time but a quality company/business should have things in place to rectify these problems

i guess the main concern here is that the maker is not giving a satisfactory explanation or resolution to your problem.
i recon take the pipe back to staintune personally and ask them the polish it (using their polish and process). leave it off the bike and see what it looks like in a few weeks. if the marks come back then IMO they should be looking into replacement or similar.

having said that tho, if the marks polish off it might not be rust/corrosion, it could be something else

Cameron, Get some pickling paste, if that doesn't work nothing will. I would send you some but I am sure Aus post would have a complete fit if I tried. If I can figure out a safe way to send 50ml to you I will pm you. The stuff is majorly toxic, but safe if used properly.

Well i got a response from staintune today.
They said due to the circumstances they will repolish my pipe free of charge for me, Which i am pretty happy about.
They still did not tell me what the "substance" is. But as long as its gone, i dont care. I asked them what the chances are of it coming back, so will be interesting to see what they say. But fingers crossed it wont come back.

Staintune problem continues Empty Backfiring

Post  dmann Mon 21 Feb 2011, 8:57 pm

Cameron, I have a Staintune slip-on on my 2010 bandit 1250sa. Sounds great but is popping (backfiring) quite a bit when I ease off the throttle. Is yours the same? Wonder if this affects fuel consumption etc. (btw I don't have the baffle fitted and bike is not quite run-in yet).

Question

Its a simple process of putting a "bung " in to block a pipe on top of the motor.Stops the backfiring.
I put in search but nothing came up.It must be in there somewhere.
Hang about let see if someone knows how to find it.Everyone with a pipe gets that backfire nothing to worry about but annoying to me.

Do you need something like this kit?

http://shop.metrickmetal.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=35&product_id=60

Or can you do it an easier way?

No ,that's to remove the hole pair system. No real need to go that far .Its just a 1 cent rubber bung you will find kicking around your shed.
It just stops the unburnt gases going back into the exhaust and popping off. I'll put pics up tomorrow but i think someone will come to our
rescue before that.
