Re: What is wrong
EVERYTHING ,we got rid of the whole lot in Tasmania as return postage was more than it was worth . We realised we had it all wrong
.Accomodation in Tasi is about $80 a night (double , ) and that IS a cheap pub .Those $35 nights have passed .
3 weeks would have cost us $1680 just to sleep in a saggy bed .

Re: What is wrong
THe self inflating mattress's , self deflated (both) during the night so useless . Two swags means both of you got
cold yet alone very unromantic .Useless
The good ,look how small it packs up to sleeping bags ,were so small they made it impossible to move without tying yourself into a knot .Useless
The ground sheet under the swags actually trapped rain between the sheet and the swag .Useless .
A small blanket kept sliding off the s\bag .Useless
The whole lot got donated to a couple of local Tasi kids to start there outdoor adventures .
After careful consideration we went shopping and tried another set up . Bliss ,lighter , smaller and paid for themselves in 4 nights use .
TO be Con .

Re: What is wrong
I see Givi coming Gus, to carry the right gear to stay warm and comfy! Just kidding! I have a Macpac two man tent that I have had for 20 years, still in perfect nick. A trangia stove (metho) great for warming up the tent in the morning (tent has a v shaped fly, the stove sits on the grass) and for cooking with, cheap to run too! Good quality inflatable mattress also 20 years old, and a 20 year old sleeping bag. Spent a lot on it once and it has lasted very well. I am sure you could buy it all now for a 3rd the price (or less)

Second thoughts.... you would not like it up here.gus wrote:EVERYTHING ,we got rid of the whole lot in Tasmania as return postage was more than it was worth . We realised we had it all wrong

Try $200+ for a 'cabin' in Cooinda/Kakadu (Kakadont!)
Cabin = transportable ATCO on stumps with a rattly box air conditioner.
Sleeping bag + self inflate camp mattress + lightweight 3 or 4 person tent to keep out the mozzies + $7 campsite is the go north of Gero/Port Agutta/Isa.
Arrive roadhouse/van park. Pay campsite fee. Pitch tent. Swim in pool. Dinner in the air-conditioned dining room. Shower. Beer as required to assist story telling to ubiquitous Irish/Scandinavian backpacker at the bar. Useful side effect = sleepiness. Shower in ablutions block. In tent by 10. Awake at sunrise. Pack. Go!
If you limit the storytelling, you will be all done for $35/night in the Territory!

Re: What is wrong
Anymore than one night and I'm bored .I'll be 2oo kls down the road buy the time you pack that up . Remember , its weight that is your enemy .
A 3man tent is a lot bigger than a 2 man but weight is about the same .Go 3 man .
I'll fininish this post this weekend (I hope ) 2.30 am starts (work ) is killing me .

Re: What is wrong
I looked at a 3 person Mantis tent though I am less inclined to go camping these days.
I have found that this provides superior shelter, is far lighter and not at all bulky
