Valve cover gasket.... Empty Valve cover gasket....

Post  stu Tue 11 Feb 2014, 8:03 am

so the 06 oil cooled has apparently sprung an oil leak in the top left front of the engine...

probably the valve cover gasket worn out (90 000km).

It's only in the one corner..... is there any way I can seal this from the outside or will I need to take the top off and replace the gasket?

I guess if so, while I'm in there I might as well check valve clearances.... any tips or is it pretty straightforward?

You might have some temporary success sealing it from the outside, in the end it will need to be done properly.

It is a rubber seal, like a big 'O" ring in a groove around the outside, If it isn't broken I'd just add silicon gasket from a tube to it.

If you are replacing you might consider getting the seals that go around the spark plug holes too.

This is the best one I found http://goo.gl/EcsdXl

You also need 2 of these Ebay Gasket and 2 with two ears. I haven't seen anyone selling a set yet, if you look on ebay at the complete gasket sets you can see the seals I'm talking about. As I said I've had good success reusing originals plus high temperature sealant.
