Track day at Phillip Island
Just thought I would share with everyone my track day experience at Phillip Island on the Bandit.
At first I thought I was mad doing a track day on the 13/12/13!!!!!! But it all went very well including the weather. I was a bit concerned that the Bandit may be a bit heavy and not be able to cope with such a high speed track but she surprised me how well behaved she was.
Anyone who hasn't done a track day should consider it because it really is the best fun on a motor cycle you can have in my opinion. There was even a Harley with my ape hanger handle bars in my group!!!!
The Bandit is such a versatile bike capable of doing just about everything apart from motorcross.
6 x 20 minute sessions for $250 is worth every cent so anyone considering taking their Bandit to the track should do it because you won't be disappointed.

I totally agree with you Straff.
You certainly get to know the capabilities of you and your bike by the end of the day. And I believe it makes you a more aware an thus better rider.
So, do tell of your day Straff. Tentative first few sessions, a bit more experience and bigger balls towards lunch?A bit too much gusto and a hairy moment?
Fill us in, mate.

Re: Track day at Phillip Island
First session and the red flag went out half way around first lap because someone had fallen off already.
The new surface is awsome, not a bump or ripple anywhere.
I thought I would have been slaughtered by all the sports bikes but was surprised how many I was passing so it felt good when they would have seen a big Bandit going past them.
I had no scary moments but my brother had one going over Lukey Heights when his Vtek kicked in on his VFR and the back steped out and through him out of the seat.
I had a set of the new Dunlop Q3 which where very sticky and gave good grip and feeling.
The Bandit did protest a bit being turned in at high speed corners but once I got used to that she felt good the whole day. I did a session on my mates BMW S1000 which was nuts!!!! But I was stiff and sore by the end of the session which reminded me why I changed from sports bikes to the Bandit.
I am now saving up to do another track day because it has showed me that you can enjoy a track day no matter what sort of bike you are riding.
Cheers.

Watch out. Sounds like you may have the bug.
It'll be tyre warmers and slicks next. Maybe even production racing.
You are lucky living near one of the best circuits in the world.
How was the Southern Loop? It looks like it goes on forever. Awesome to watch the big guns get around there.
Did you have the back end spinning up going through Casey's corner? How they do that at 200k + has got me beat.
I'm a little bit green with envy. Can you tell?
Easter creek is all I have left since Oran Park closed.

Yes you do get an appreciation of how good those guys are when you compare the speeds you are doing compared to what they do.
You are right, southern loop does go for ever but is a double apex corner. My favourite is Lukey Heights.
I have done a track day at Eastern Creek and loved it. It was when I had a Fire Storm.
I am spoilt living only 1 hour away from PI. I have spent a lot of time there on sports bikes but I was really surprised how well the bandit went there and how much fun I had even though it doesn't have the power, brakes and handling of the sports bikes.
Cheers.
