Goodbye Black Beauty
It was with a tinge of sadness that I helped load my FZ1 into a trailer tonight and watch as it headed back to Melbourne.
Sold to a mate and that makes it a bit easier.
Now some of you know and have offered advice on what my next bike will be. For the benefit of everyone who cares my 1st preference is a TL1000R. A bike that was launched as I finished my apprenticeship but always had other priorities.
Well two grown kids and 2 ex wives and a supportive partner and some assets later im about to start a serious hunt for one. I could even fit on one now
Second choice is a TL1000S and 3rd is a late SV1000S.
If you know of any and I know JTB does let me know. Have cash (some) will travel for the right bike.

Re: Goodbye Black Beauty
I don't know how long I'd spend looking for an R at the right price. An S would have to be black.gus wrote:I did see a nice S on e-bay last night .
If I can choose an R would be blue/white too but the later yellow isn't too bad.
Re: Goodbye Black Beauty
A good result there Chris. The bloke I bought the TRX off had tears in his eyes when he dropped it off (that's when you know you've bought the right bike). I'll keep an eye out for you - let me know if there is anything that you'd like me to look at in this region. The hard thing will be the patience to wait until you get the one you want. I don't want to put you off, but it took me years to get the XS850 (mind you it is 33 years old so there aren't too many around - you won't have this problem).

Re: Goodbye Black Beauty
Thanks Dave and I know price wise I'm looking at the wrong time of year.
I could go to Melb tomorrow and bring home a SV but I'm not quite there cash wise for a "good" TLR unless a seller is super keen so I'll have to just be patient. Or score some O/T soon. I'm not selling my arse again

I guess it shows one thing 2W. The Bandit is harder to let go. Did you think of letting her go instead ? Please don't rush in to the next one , cause if I'm any indication as soon as you buy something, a week later the one you really wanted turns up. Are you definate on sticking with another Japer ?

Oh Shit. Now I have to listen to a comparisons of one of my all time favorites.
I don't like you any more Chris! lol
This one has got some nice little bits on it!
AND THE SOUND IS AWESOME!

I know every one on Bikesales
Why sell the FZ1?
Well it comes down to this;
The FZ1 is far superior to the Bandit in every way except for what I use the bandit for 90% of the time these days.
That is the 40km rural straight flat-ish commute.
What I finished up with by moving to the beach was basically 2 Bandits.
The FZ is more exotic with its chrome molly frame and far better built and I decided it was more sellable for a price that could see me close to a straight swap for something completely different. Sure I could have got $500 more eventually for the Bandit but it has more km and there are plenty of them for sale.
If I still lived in town and twisties were closer it would be a different story.
Sorry Reardo the FZ1 will always be better out of the box than a GSF1250 but its not my favourite bike. That award goes to my old RF900R Manta Ray (LE #32) I wish I still had that bike.
Anyway V Twin come at me
Re: Goodbye Black Beauty
Have you also thought about a Honda vtr sp2? I like them much more than the TLR.

Re: Goodbye Black Beauty
No hope of getting one for any sort of reasonable price RD. They are pulling upwards of $12k for a decent one as they are now full on collectors items. Dave and I were actually having a good old chat about this at Cowra.

Re: Goodbye Black Beauty
Mate there's no doubt they're an awesome machine and for what they are and they're history probably not badly priced.reddog wrote:Have you also thought about a Honda vtr sp2? I like them much more than the TLR.
I hav 2 problems;
1. I cant chuck that cash at an indulgence
2. I want the bike I wanted as a 20 ish yr old bloke who had other financial commitments. A bucket list bike if you like. I might not keep it. It might not live up to expectations but I want to know I've owned the bike that gave me wood as a young and foolish bloke.

I like how you can hear his jacket creaking in the walk-around.Reardo wrote:

Re: Goodbye Black Beauty
Did they come standard with white faced dashes ? It could just be one of those dial face changes (I've done the same to my Bandit)
Re: Goodbye Black Beauty
If you read the comments at the bottom , he states the speedo was probably replaced & bought from America ...........so that would make the mileage wrong ......walk away !

Re: Goodbye Black Beauty
Thanks Reardo.
The tone of the response to the question puts me off.
Plus the quite noticeable dent. Makes me wonder what its really like and how many bikes have gone into building this one.
Had a productive chat with Melody on the way to Melb today and I might have a bit more cash to play with than first thought

Yeah, I know what your saying mate. I always look any possible bargain, But with the cash in pocket I become suspicious of any bargain.
