What brand and density? Empty What brand and density?

What brand and density of air should I put in my tires?

I've always used a "home brand". i.e. Straight from my garage but I'm wondering if I'm robbing Black Betty of some performance edge.
I've seen plenty of YouTube videos where the B1250 wheelies in 3rd gear. Surely these bikes have heavy air in the rear and lighter air in the front. No? In Australia which brand has lighter air Shell, Mobil or an independent? I'm thinking independent because on occasion I have filled the tank at these places and have gone much less distance before filling again so if they have lighter fuel surely they have lighter air too. Is my reasoning sound? Maybe my bike will look cooler if I get air from a servo near the café strips. All the bikes parked there look cool.

I'm also thinking heavy air has advantages too. That is centrifugal forces at high speed would give me the 260km/h top speed a mate says he sees all the time. Sort of like an expanding flywheel. Yeah that must be it.

I haven't even considered air from different altitudes. I mean how much difference can it make when my old RF900R fell over at speed at sea level a couple of years ago and the Bandit almost did the same thing on top of Mt Hotham a while back too. Maybe that was more to do with the Landcruiser coming towards me on the wrong side of the road must have had heavy air and was slow to steer. Yeah that’s it.

After 35+ years on bikes of all types I still have these questions. Someone please help me.

Not sure if this should have gone in the mechanical forum.....

i reckon you should take that to all the bike forums.

In fact, that would be a great question for some of the guys in Rapid Bikes magazine's tech section.

Mor humour please!!

As my bike was imported and I therefore paid GST, @ 10%, on the value of the air in the tyres do I get a rebate on this cost when I replace the tyres and fill them with local air.
Or do I somehow get a slow rebate, based on km's travelled, as this imported air slowly leaks out of my tyres and I replace with local air.

This does not even touch on the previously mentioned problem of how heavy is imported air and how does it compare to local air.

You'd probably need to claim a partial rebate each time you put extra air in the tyre as you're replacing the imported air with locally produce air progessively.

What brand and density? Empty And what about...........

Post  ohmyfj55 Mon 07 Jun 2010, 7:13 pm

yeah, and what about the difference in weight between City and Country air.

Do i pay more or less because in living in a regional area, the air here may contain less foreign particulates. Wouldn't that make the air lighter??

If i have farm machinery and get rebates for diesel in a regional area, do i get rebates for lighter air?

Maybe the riders in places like Los Angles, with their very heavy air, have more centrifugal force in their front tyre and are subject to harder steering??

Maybe you should consider getting carbon credits for locking up the C02 portion of the air in your tyres. Smile

Wouldn't that be offset agains the carbon polution created from spinning the tyres up.
