TRX850 or XS850
Which one is the better project bike as a stable partner for the Bandit?
or
Both are currently for sale on Bikepoint. I'm inclined to go for the XS850 but it is over Adelaide way so there are logistic issues. It would look good with the original pipes restored and the tank and sidecover labels back on.

Very different machines Ewok. Firstly. What is the intended purpose. Track days, road, custom, con course ?

Not for the track - just to have an older, non-inline 4 Japanese bike. I'm liking the old XS because I could club register it and do a bit of road riding as well as produce a nice restoration if I put in enough effort.

I'd go for the XS Ewok. It's a much better investment.

I dunno Gus - I might be over-rating my own abilities but I reckon if I did a half decent restoration it could end up looking like this:
Whereas with the TRX I's probably do nothing but ride it around for something different.

I'm not a big fan of that style of bike but I think this Cafe Racer kit looks real good.

Trouble is they were crap from new .One cyl .extra to restore and a shart drive to make you get a second job to payfor.

Hmm - this is getting confusing. I hadn't considered the cafe racer potential - not bad at all.

If it's just a resto you want. Then why not a 750/4 . Probably one of the most influential bikes ever. I guess the choices are endless. Good luck.

Trixxie!!!
Totally agree that the XS850 was just slightly improved version of the pos XS750...besides Trixxies sound cool.

Yep TRX would be my pic. Apparently R1 front ends are a good swap. Plenty of bits on Fleabay too and they sound great

I'm with Gus - with a half decent resto it may look something like that but it'll still be an XS850. Slow overweight evil handling shitbox when new, old slow overweight evil handling shitbox now. TRX's on the other hand are a particularly fine piece of kit.

This. TRXs sound awesome, plenty of parts for a restoration and make great trackbikes.

I think the TRX has won the day! The real hunt will begin in mid September.

With blue pot R1/FZ1 brakes.
The best in the business even by todays standards.
Re: TRX850 or XS850
I remember him saying that they were from an R1. It has braided lines feeding the fluid.

Its a tidy looking bike Dave. Congrats.
If the blue pots are done right they dont even need braded lines.
And welcome to the tuning fork family
