Q For The Tech Nerds
Ok so the contract for my mobile phone is up for renewal next month. (Optus)
I thought it would be an easy decision. Either upgrade to a SG3 or iPhone 5 (yes James C) but the sales bird put a Samsung Note 2 in my hands and now I'm stumped.
My partner has a SG3 and although she loves it I find it hard to hold and use compared to my original Galaxy. That's part of the reason I was entertaining an iPhone. The other reason is being away from my phone over summer I had forgotten how laggy Android is after a while. It seriously shits me now. The SG3 and Note 2 are far more grunty and its not an issue they say.
So who has a Note 2? What do you think?
James C what's the iPhone 5 like to live with? Any issues like slow response & lag? Battery life in real use etc. Anyone else feel free to comment too.
12 months ago I wouldn't have considered a phone made from apples so yes I have turned over a new leaf

You must have gone to France in your absence 2WA ('cause I can't understand a word of what you said - except the bit about the forbidden fruit)
But my mobile phone works just as well now as the day I bought it.

One of the bosses at work got a Samsung note and reckons it's shit hot. He bluetooths the GoPro to it. Just don't ever get a Galaxy S 111. I just put my iphone 3 aside and got a Nokia Lumia 820 It's Windows based and I reckon it the bees knees.

Go the iphone. easy to use and no dramas. Add a kogan sim (telstra 3G) 6gb and unlimited calls and texts for $25 a month and it's all go

I must live in the only place in the country where Optus booms in but there is absolutely no Telstra mobile coverage.
That's a pretty good deal though.
Kaupy, I will have a closer look at Window$ but the last Nokia was a piece of junk slide out keyboard thing and that's after years of Nokia loyalty. Its been Samsung ever since.
Re: Q For The Tech Nerds
Have you considered HTC? I'm using the HTC One XL which is the Telstra version, I believe Optus have the HTC One. Not much difference really mainly frequencies for the different networks.

The Nokia Lumia 920 is good if you take lots of photos, it has a great camera. Windows OS.

I know a lot of people with the S3 that really like it and they are previous iPhone users. That's what I'll ge getting in a few months. I have a Galaxy Tab so I'm used to Android.
My personal unfounded bias prevents me from recommending the iPhone5.

Re: Q For The Tech Nerds
Seeing as online reviews cant seem to split the ip5 & sg3 im going to have a much closer look and feel at the shops this morning. I will also have a good play with the note 2.
I have used Android for years and I like it. I also like the slick polish of ios and use an iMac when I have too.
I have ruled out the Nokia through lack of apps....... For now.
Its a tough choice.
Can anyone comment on ip5 screen performance in sunlight?

I agree with kaupy if you don't want a iphone then the windows mr softie phone is a good choice, but i still like my iphone. A work colleague of mine has one of those note 2 s and we sitting there having lunch and he's telling how good it is. Any way it starts to ring and another colleague says mate your laptops ringing well i nearly choked on my calamari it was that funny . And a good point the note is a big sucker and i hate android os anyway

Well I made my choice yesterday and the winner was the one on the right
I decided I did a lot of internet surfing on my old SG1 and wanted more screen realestate.
When you factor in the quad core processor and huge standby and talk time capabilities and Micro SD expansion and micro USB port the iPhone just cant compete.
I know the Android apps I use and I know how Android works. Until 2 yrs ago I was using a PDA and the Note 2 has that functionality to it too.
Yes they are big in the hand. Yes they may be too big for some but they're not much bigger than the SG3 and only a few grams heavier.
As far as Optus was concerned they cost the same so with that the fate of the iPhone 5 was sealed.
Melody is up for a ph replacement next month and could go from her SG3 to the iP5 mainly for ease of syncing with her iMac and iPad so we may finish up with the best of both worlds.
The Nokia looks good but a bit industrial in its finish (square edges and corners etc) and there isnt a lot of apps yet and will be playing catch-up for a while yet. However it does work well and feels good.
Jim, that was bloody funny mate.

Ok 2WA, I blame you for this.
Started talking to you and some of my friends about getting a new phone when my contract is up in a few months. That same night my old Nokia C6-01 turned itself into a brick.
Anyway, Virgin Mobile were good enough to waive the last 4 months of my contract free and now I have a Samsung S3 in the mail.

They're a good unit mate but with a marginal battery. We (partner) have one.
They have some awesome features but you'll be charging it every day though.
