Cheap BCF fishing Kayak - Home made Transom mount
Well... I'm not much of a fisherman, but the Mrs wanted to buy a Kayak. We were looking at models that can hold both of us and our son. Turns out BCF had a model that could do that, so we ordered one in. They were $700 but when we went to pick it up they had a special on and it cost us $500 bargain!
Anyhow, we bought oars as well but I thought it'd be worth fitting it with an electric motor for when I cbf paddling. They had 20% off Watersnakes, so I ended up picking up a 24lb job for $160. It had a heap better looking mount than the cheapest one that was $30 cheaper.
We ended up finding a mount to suit the Kayak, but upon finding a price of $250 I decided to do a ghetto DIY job.
So here it is ready for it's maiden voyage. Made out of Western Australia's finest Jarrah. Cost all up was about $12 as I had the tools and the wood. Let's hope it holds together
So anyone else got one of these??

It just completed its maiden voyage with all 3 of us on board. That battery was shit, I got it from a mate who said it is alright. 10 minutes in and it's back to paddling. Prior to that we were cranking along at a reasonable rate of knots.
The kayak is surprisingly stable. For $500 it appears to be a good thing. Next time I will try my blue apple thumper and see how long we can get out of her. If it goes well then 3rd trip we'll take the fishing gear. I can see this thing getting in the way of good riding time.
FYI Gus I knew sweet f a about carpentry until I was forced to learn 10 years ago when my wife and I brought our house and renovated the lot. I thought we were going to knock out a wall or two but her Dad had different ideas and we rebuilt the lot. Still I wouldn't call myself a carpenter, just someone who has a bunch of tools and can use them to half their potential.
To be honest I hated wood work prior to that, I really enjoy making stuff these days or going and cutting a load of firewood. It's such a different skill than IT work which is my bread and butter.
Still if Gus can skillfully put together a carbon fibre version I will take it. Western Australian jarrah is quite heavy

A decent deep cycle battery and it would be shit hot. If you could get hold of some 6mm aluminium sheet you could make a good mount for the motor.

Kaupy, you are onto it. Next stop is making up an alloy motor mount once I figure out how I want it.
