Too much room for pillion
I am hoping someone on here has solved my problem already.
I am one of these lucky guys who has a light, slim wife. With all other applications, her size and weight is a bonus, but as a pillion on the back of the 1250, she has too much space. She's always sliding backwards and forwards, kneeing me in the kidneys etc.
She likes to hold the tail handle, but slides down every time I brake. The way I see it I have a few options:
- tie her down
- get better seat
- buy a spacer cushion thingy to put between the rider and pillion (if that exists)
- feed her donuts and milkshakes
Has anyone else had this problem?
Note: I have a givi topbox with backrest attached which has already brought her forward 3 inches, but she needs more like 8-9 (obviously my 3 inches aint enough!)

Custom seat, shape it like a horse saddle with front pommel so she sits in the seat. I have a similar problem to you. Custom seat is about $450 made with your base from the guy who did mine for Dingo1963 and his wife when he owned the Bandit I have. Dingo1963 had his current Bandit seat also done by the same guy.

Industrial double sided sticky tape
you could get the seat recovered with a non slip fabric.

LOL, buy some of the non slip mat stuff from a hardware store. Wrap it over, tuck it under the edges, lock the seat in place.Mpottsy wrote:Industrial double sided sticky tape

Re: Too much room for pillion
Some interesting and helpful suggestions.
I'm also considering a gel seat, so might combine the two issues and solve with a custom seat. Now to investigate seats.
Thanks for the feedback

Re: Too much room for pillion
I had my seat redone by VCM seats and had gel inserts put into both rider and pillion seats. he then covered the seat in a more grippier leatherette fabric. I am very please with the result.
The only problem that I have now is that my new wet weather pants have a high grip fabric in the seat of the pants so its like I am super glued to the seat. It has taken a while to get used to this new feeling and how to move around to get into a good position on the bike for cornering.

Re: Too much room for pillion
I had exactly the same problem as yourself isj001. I tried a wool seat cover. Didn't work. I had my standard seat reshaped. Didn't work. Same result when using wool cover. (actually the re-shaping caused my wife to suffer groin pain as it made her stretch her legs further apart because her bum was lower in the seat) Bought a sargent seat. Didn't work, until I put the wool seat cover on. Problem solved, except on the bendy bits where I brake harder. But that's more due to the bike design, the pillion sits higher then the rider. Down side, the sargent seats are a pretty seat and it looks like shit with the wool seat cover. Better then having a grumpy pillion when you stop for lunch. Hope I helped.

Re: Too much room for pillion
Thanks for all the help guys.
I ended up ordering a gel custom seat and will see if the tribo fits on it when I get it.
I dunno.... the things we do to keep the peace

Re: Too much room for pillion
The Tribo won't fit the Suzuki factory gel seat. Too wide compared with the stocker

Why not drop them a line and ask if they can make one to suit if you provide the measurements
