Great Alpine Road
This came through on our media monitoring service email this morning.
The road is pretty good now so these had better not be WRB’s!

The Victorian Government has allocated $2.5million for the installation of barriers on the Great Alpine Road, near Bruthen. Sebastian Motta, spokesperson, VicRoads, says it would likely see a 90 percent reduction in accidents.

Re: Great Alpine Road
I may have missed something but how does installing new barriers reduce accidents? It might reduce deaths or maybe even injuries, but I'm at a loss as to how it's going to stop people from having accidents.

I was thinking the same thing Mick. I was also wondering if 10% of crashes was acceptable to Vic Roads.
My main concern is the type of barrier because the WRB they have installed between Nowa Nowa and Lakes Entrance are very close to the edge of the road which in itself creates a danger to us users not wrapped in 1 + tonne of steel and glass etc.
Re: Great Alpine Road
Maybe if they put the barriers across the road to stop traffic it would stop accidents

From what I understand about beigetoria these days, it wouldn't surprise me if that was their great road safety strategy to acheive zero deaths. "Look we can do it, ok you can't go anywhere, but at least no one will ever die again".

I posted the statement on the Vicroads FB page last night and they responded that they couldnt answer because it wasnt a "customer service" enquiry
How the f@ck do you get an answer out of VR if you cant ask the tossers a question
