Gold and Black Bandit
First topic message reminder :
I was thinking about the chain and sprocket replacement that is coming up some time in the near future. I quite like the gold look against the black of the 2010+ Bandit and naturally though black bandit with gold chain and rear sprocket. So then i started thinking of adding gold bar end weights, being cheap to buy. But then I recalled those ZX12's and VFR800's with their gold rims - hmm might they look good on the Bandit with the aforementioned bling if I removed the tyres, brake rotors and had them painted? Anyone good with photoshop to do a mockup?

Here's a better picture of the tank's carbon cover/gold bolts as well as a couple showing the new rim tape (might be a while before the gold rims become reality ).

Re: Gold and Black Bandit
Thought some gold well-nuts for the fairing would add to the transformation. At $4.49 (no postage), I hope they're waterproof!
PS: Not much progress on the gold wheels - have tested one paint and rejected it and have another.

Hopefully they would be anodised

Re: Gold and Black Bandit
Well the wheel phase of this project is progressing. I have sourced both a front and rear wheel rim from other forum members (thanks again guys). And have sourced new wave disc rotors for both front and rear from the states and a full set of titanium bolts to fix the rotors to the rims.
When I get the rims, I'll be stripping them back to bare metal and painting them with etch primer before the gold paint goes on. Should have a full set of gold wheels (including new Pirelli Angels) soon!

You'll need another bike for the spare wheels now Dave.

Re: Gold and Black Bandit
Got the front wheel back from Alderton Motorcycle Repairs (in Sydney) yesterday (it had a flat spot which I got them to roll out - they did a good job too). I wasn't too sure how to go about stripping the paint so I applied Accent paint stripper to it (usually used on house paint). I see why people say the standard Suzuki paint is dodgy - with two coats of stripper I removed 99.99% of the paint from the wheel. It only took a few minutes with wet & dry to finish it off. After a good clean (the hardest part of the job so far) I sprayed it with 3M etch primer. Hmm, my spray painting skills score 3/10! Might be some extra sanding tomorrow. :(I'd better get some more practice in before I hit it with the colour.

Re: Gold and Black Bandit
If you are looking at using 'well nuts' and can't source them in Oz, try asking the supplier for 'rivet nuts' which most suppliers seem to stock.
They seem to be the same item but with a different name.
They are listed in Blackwoods catalogue in zinc and stainless steel.

Re: Gold and Black Bandit
A little progress. I have one painted wheel! Looks pretty good considering the primer wasn't exactly smooth. I'm thinking it should have some lacquer top coat applied to it.

It is the same stuff SB1250 used Gus (at least, I think it was SB1250!). It's VHT Caliper Paint - Gold (SP736 is the color code). It can be baked on if you have a big enough oven.

Re: Gold and Black Bandit
I have to agree with the other blokes, it looks good. Spray a clear coat on.
But, on another note, save yourself some paint, I don't think you need to paint the inside (when the tyre is on) of the wheel.

Now, Now, Ewok.
You don't want to be responsible for influencing young impressionable lads to take up the habbit, like those glorious JPS formula one cars of the 70's did to me.
I loved the Marlboro livery too, but the smokes tasted like poo.
The wheels are going to look great, mate. Be sure to take a gold paint pen to the sidewall lettering of your tyres, like the F1 tyres.

Looks good Dave. A clear coat will make it a lot easier to clean. You can get a 2 pac clear in a can that dries really hard. The can has a trigger valve on the bottom of it that releases the hardener into the clear coat. The can then will only last a few days. Pretty pricey though. But worth it.

I guess you'll be wanting to fit your own tyres and use dynabeads then.

No sorry. But any paint supplies store should be able to help. This is the stuff, but I'm sure it did not cost that much.

That wheel looks much better without that gay gold rim tape, Dave.
