Loaner Bike-best or worst ridden?
Was given this as a loaner bike, BIG arse 150cc Yamaha R15
ha ha, OK, first impression, sat on it..it felt like a pushbike it was so light. It was already running when I hopped on, and to the sound of a sewing machine. So,take off, holy shit..its got absolutely NO POWER. Had to turn into a street that had a hill, and I thought I might have to get off and push it.
Now with that obstacle out the way,it was down through a few twisties.. then it started to get fun. It maybe under powered, but it needed almost no imput to make it go around a corner, where as the bandit, which i`m sure would be double the weight,(no I didn`t google it)needs alot of imput to go through coners, and it was quiet hard at first to ride because of this, and I had to keep on correcting myself through corners, cause I wasn`t riding a tank,as the bandit feels after riding this thing.
I was quiet suprised with the sitting, it was quiet comfy, which I didn`t expect..just needs another 140hp,and i`d be sold..ahh yeah buy an R1

Loaner Bike-best or worst ridden?
compared to the 50cc scooters they sometimes loan out , the 150 is a power house

Never had a loaner. Shops here are too tight.
Did you return it without chicken strips?

I've had a 10 yr old GS500 - quite pedestian and uninspiring, and a DR400 (or are they 450) - it had a seat that you couldn't sit on for more than 40kms.

yeah your right there paul,I have had a 50cc, I`LL NEVER GET ON ONE AGAIN, F#%&*@G dangerous.
I`ve still got it 2wheel,its got a 1030k`s on it with stubble all over the tyres. I hand it back tomorrow. I`m trying my best to bed the tyres in.

best ever was this thing. Quick- Fix Harley/Honda/KTM in Mildura.
Worst was ratty Virago 250 from Phil Beaumonts Kawa Brisbane donkeys ago.
Happy not to be walking in both these extremes and having a ride on anything different is cool.
That Yamaha looks a good thing for loan bike.

Had a BMW K1300S for 7 days which was fun and then a S1000RR for one day which was funnnerer . They wouldn't let me keep the sooperbike overnight.
Both bikes were bored with me tho and I was up for the first $1k if i had a spill. Was well worth the fiscal risk.

Best loaner was a Guzzi Grisso ! Loudest loaner was a 250 Virago with slashed harley type pipes and mini ape hangers . Worst ever loaner was a Peugeot scooter . It was that bad, I road it less then 2km to a Hungry Jacks, parked it and sat in there until my bike was ready!!

Worst: POS Virago 250 sewing machine.
Best: Probably the Honda CRF 230. Looked like a clown riding it but fuck it was fun.

Re: Loaner Bike-best or worst ridden?
Worst was a Honda 50 scooter. But at the time, 2 months without a bike, I was happy to ride anything that had 2 wheels and a engine.
Best was an Aprilia Tuono. Although technically it wasn't a loaner, more an extended test ride. My wifes boss at the time threw her the keys, along with a handful of indemnity forms, on a Saturday morning and told her to take it on a group ride with friends and let them ride it. The bike went back on Monday with an extra 1000km on it.

Re: Loaner Bike-best or worst ridden?
In March when I had my 1000km service and my panniers fitted I was given a VFR800X crossrunner for the day, I ended up with it for 3 days while they waited for the correct top box mount to arrive. At first I thought it was gutless but then I remembered the salesman said it didn't start working until about 6000rpm, once I remembered that and revved the shit out of it the bike loved it and was fun to ride (ugly though)
In April I had the 6000km service done in Brisbane and I was given a GS500 to ride for the morning, I'm not a small bloke and I had my daughter with me as well, the poor little thing survived but I felt sorry for it on a couple of the hill starts. I was grateful for anything to ride that morning so I was certainly not complaining. FWIW, the boys at Brisbane Motorcycles couldn't do enough to look after us while we were there, their service was great and to get a loner when they didn't know me from a bar of soap was awesome.

Re: Loaner Bike-best or worst ridden?
my worst was a '89 gs500 with rooted suspension, crap brakes and no power. Only had it a day and that was far, far too long. I should have just got a fkn taxi.

You should have said "take your time - I'm not coming back for four hours." You lucky bugger.

loaner
+1 for gs500.
twice now *sigh*
they stall if you dont get them over 5k to get moving. and at no point in their rev range do they actually have pickup. apparently they are lams approved and sell well... wtf? suzuki shops in brisbane love them as loaners because people dont thrash them. (I wonder why).
best - brand new bmw r1200r. sunshine coast bmw while I was getting my r1150RT serviced in 2008.

Re: Loaner Bike-best or worst ridden?
I had one of those horrible r15 things as a loaner. Redline in third was barely traffic pace. I asked the service guy when I handed it back who would seriously buy one deliberately? The only other loaner I have ridden was a hyosung gt650s. It must have been an early model and lived a hard life as it was absolute crap. Suspension was bouncy, engine didn't want to rev, brakes had virtually no feel and compression braking caused the rear to lock up instantly. It was suicidal. Heard the person who rode it after me crashed it!
