New Chain and Sprockets
After 53000km it was time for new chain and sprockets. The sprockets still looked good considering the milage with the front sprocket only just starting to shark tooth
I purchased both chain and sprockets off Ebay
Sprockets were a Esjot brand which is a German Brand
I bought of Metal Gear Internation which operates out of Brisbane.
http://stores.ebay.com.au/metalgearinternationalptyltd
They have had the best customer service to date with all my ebay purchases
The Chain i bought was a Triple S Xring chain from Slipstream performance on the Gold coast also through Ebay
http://stores.ebay.com.au/Slipstream-Performance-Parts?_trksid=p4340.l2563
They were also very helpful with there customer service
All up $261 and very happy with the results
I didnt really realise how noisy my old chain was until taking it for its first ride

I replaced mine at about 30k. I noticed a difference at that milage.

With that " Girlfriend " on the back, it won't really matter much.

Just picked her up after the 30,000kms service. Asked them to look carefully at the chain and sprockets but they reckon all good so not replaced. Rear brake pads got their first replacement though, I'm certain the fronts are still the originals.

That supprises me Ewok, I always thought that the fronts would be the first to go as they normally have more braking pressure on them. Maybe it's becauce there is so much more surface area on the fronts.

Re: New Chain and Sprockets
Fronts usually go first as a loot of riders use the crap out of the front brake. The front is where the majority of braking occurs with the back giving a helping hand.
There are times when I don't even use the rear brake on the road although now I'm venturing into dirt road (not off road) riding I'm finding I use the rear a hole lot more to stabilise the bike.

I reckon my rear pads will go before the fronts. Probably depends on open road or commuter riding which goes first.

Re: New Chain and Sprockets
how the hell did you get 50 odd thousand k`s out of a chain? mine are stuffed after high 20`s ( yes I ride hard) and have to check tension no later than a 1000k`s

The 50000 was a lot of highway milage and cleaning and relubing the chain everytime i wash the bike.
With the brakes. i use my rear more then the fronts. Again i spose it comes down to riding dirt bikes for many many years

Re: New Chain and Sprockets
I do exactly the same as you,i`m very fussy with maintenance, most of my k`s are h/w I always rear brake, although I can`t see how that matters,i`m smooth on gear changes, I always clean and lube always blip going down the gears to get a smooth transistion.. I do about 20000-25000 a year.. put me in the mountains,i ride to peg out...high 20`s they`re stuffed

Both the bike and I are too fat for that nonsense
Don't worry I use the fronts but pad size and contact area will see them outlast the rears.
Re: New Chain and Sprockets
Just cleaned my chain today Faaaaark the amount of shit that came out was staggering like about half a cup full of muck. but then again it might have something to with my venture into the mud, nice and clean now sparkling in fact

It took me most of the last 20 years to break that "dirt bike" habit, now I hardly touch the rear, only when 2 up or if I need to pull up really quick.

The rear steady's the bike and even if only contributing 5 -8% of braking power it still assists.
Re: New Chain and Sprockets
Didn't help me much today when the rear was leaving the little licorish strip down the road!
